Dear friends,
On Dec 28,2012, workers from the Park Services in Calarasi Romania, buried ALIVE 10 puppies, in a park down town, right in front of the Town Hall. Fortunately, the passers by and residents from that area, heard the doggies screams and alerted the Police.All the puppies have been saved BUT, we join the Romanian Federation for the Protection of Animals and the Environment ( FPAM ) and all Romanian animals rights activists, to ASK for the harshest punishments for these individuals who committed such and atrocity.

We hope that the legal complains and the international outrage about this crime, will force the Local Law Enforcement agencies to fully apply the law in force in Romania for the protection of animals, and will punish in the most severe way these individuals.

There might be the tendency to cover up or to find and excuse or , who knows what....and THIS tendency MUST STOP...it is far too common to let let people who commit crimes against animals to walk free, to get a small fine or even not to get charged at all.

The time has come for Romania to implement and APPLY the laws of the land. Romanian Police does not take the Law 9/2008, for the protection of animals seriously, and many times acts as if THIS law does not even exist.

We ask for a thorough and tough investigation and for the harshest punishment of all the individuals involved.

He has now been taken by police and been seen by the Breed specialist who has classed my Staff cross as a Pit bull Type dog and have requested I sign him over for destruction. Simba has done nothing wrong, he just happens to look like an illegal breed. Galgos are Spanish greyhounds used for hunting hares in the countryside. At the end of hunting season, they are often hung or this method, as seen in the photo, is employed because it costs nothing. It is SICK.

Oran, the second largest city of Algeria, has a bullring. The first bullfight took place in 1954 and during the French colonization held bullfights that ended with the independence of the country.
During the 90′s the bullring was used for political meetings, sports and theatre.Meanwhile over time the bullring became delapidated so the City Hall of Oran decided to repair it in 2010.It will be inaugurated in December this year and instead of using it for cultural spectacles they decided to reopen with a bullfight to boost tourism.

Right in the middle of Europe, millions of street animals are dying year in year out: in killing camps who call themselves animal shelters, or in “freedom” – of hunger, cold, diseases, poison.

Granted, you’ll find local laws forbidding the above – but often enough neither local authorities nor elements of the executive authorities do comply with the laws.

Even the most barbarian cruelties to animals go without prosecution because it is not avenged, as a rule.

On December 1st, 2009 the treaty of Lisbon (so-called EU reformation treaty) became effective.
The major agreement states that the Union and its member states have to take account of the well-being of the animals as feeling beings. But the ratification of this treaty does not automatically imply the end of the brute widespread deaths.

Therefore necessarily have to follow the words and deeds:

The European Commission and the Parliament have to enact a law which guarantees the animals right of living to their needs.

Thus we call for:

• Prohibition of installation and preservation of killing stations – whatever camouflage name they are given
• Prohibition of any killing of street animals which is not medically indicated – in case of medical indication

• Implementation of binding governmental vaccination and castration routines
• Implementation of (minimum) standards for animal shelters
• Review of hunting laws and regulations in being which allow for careless killing of pets and street animals
• Prohibition of abuse of street animals for laboratory experiments
• Implementation of laws for pet breeding and restrictions for commercial pet breeding
• Implementation of classes in animal protection in schools

An investigation by Compassion and two other animal welfare groups has unearthed the terrible reality of the live transport trade between some EU states and Turkey. The investigation by Eyes on Animals, the Animal Welfare Foundation and Compassion in World Farming, looked into the export of bulls, pregnant heifers and sheep from a number of EU Member States to Turkey. The animals had come from Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece and Latvia with the distances travelled as far as 2,200km in some cases. Forty four animal transports were checked at the border between Bulgaria and Turkey and extreme welfare problems leading to severe animal suffering were discovered.

We are calling for the European Commission to suspend the export of animals to Turkey as a matter of urgency in order to prevent further suffering by EU animals.

This inhumane and unnecessary trade should be brought to an end altogether.

Animal rights activists say they receive only minimal care in their cramped and stinking cages.

Katya the bear was a longtime star of the Big St. Petersburg State Circus on Fontanka, where night after night she and another bear delighted children by riding motorcycles around the ring.

During the 1980 Summer Games, the bears were applauded by thousands at a ceremony opening the football competition in St. Petersburg, then called Leningrad. Katya also performed in two movies released in the 1980s.

Since her retirement in 2009, Katya and the painted bus on which she once toured with the circus have not left a parking lot near a busy highway. The aging bear spends the long hours jumping up and down in her cage and trying to crack the rusty metal railings with her chipped and yellowed teeth.

Dozens of other retired circus animals also live in the smelly cages placed inside the bus and a minivan parked nearby.

Some occasionally are taken out to accompany photographers to downtown St. Petersburg to have their pictures taken with children and tourists. Others never get washed or examined by veterinarians, animal rights activists say.

"They can't move normally and start going crazy," Zoya Afanasyeva of the Vita animal rights group said as she stood by Katya's sweltering bus on a hot summer day.

"Apparently they are being taken care of, but not more often than once a day, and this care is perfunctory because the smell here in the parking lot is unbearable," Afanasyeva said.

Klava the bear shares a small cage with Pasha the boar. Birds with atrophied muscles live next to cats that don't meow and stare straight ahead with pus-covered eyes.

Circus director Viktor Savrasov said the animals are cared for and Katya's fate would have been worse if her trainer had agreed to have the bear put to sleep.

"Whatever happened, she did not leave her," he said of retired trainer Natalya Arkhipova, who still visits Katya to feed her.

Animal rights activists have long urged Russia's government to strengthen animal protection laws.

NO to the 2012 DOG SHOW to be held in ROMANIA!

Greetings,

We read with dismay about Romania’s audacity to organize the 2012 Dog Show in the country, whilst Romania’s image as one of the cruellest nations towards its animals in general and strays in particular is spreading throughout the world like wildfire.

We strongly oppose the venue of such event in Romania, until Romania observes and strictly applies animal care rules for its strays, through spay/neuter/return programme, which proved to be so successful in other parts of the world and in Europe. We demand, hereto, the change of venue for the 2012 Dog show to a country where animals are treated with the respect they deserve.

Also, we expect the sponsors to exercise common sense and fairness in the matter, guard their image as responsible authorities and withdraw their support to the venue.

The Romanian Kennel Club cannot surely sustain its reputable breeding business image, while its “pure breeds” end up in the streets of Romania as strays, abandoned and thrown away like trash, so often literally into the dustbins.

Romania’s indifference to the world’s protests, letters, mails, petitions and its arrogance despite despicable cruelties towards the animals, puts off not only potential tourists but it enrages those who view the organizing of a Dog Show as an affront and its note on the official webpage, which reads “the wonderful world of dogs” a mockery in the true sense of the word.

The responsibility towards these animals should not rely solely on the public’s shoulders while the institutions and authorities by distancing themselves from the situation or on the other extreme end, by applying cruel methods of disposing of them, are keen on projecting a “perfectly clean image of their professionalism” to the world. This is offensive to all animal lovers and Romania’s tainted image of irresponsibility, apathy, condoning cruelty and total neglect of its animals/strays is spreading further for the whole world to see.

The barbaric methods of killing the strays, by shooting, clubbing, dumping them in deserted areas or cramming them into so called “shelters’ without adequate conditions where they are left to die of hunger or in many cases where they are brutally massacred inside the shelters, are unacceptable for an EU country. We expect Romania, as a European country, to strictly apply the only civilized method acceptable for stray population control, which is the spay/neuter/return programme and stop the cruelties towards its animals immediately.

Wenka was born to lab parents in 1954. When you think of the fifties, you think of Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, and James Brown. These performers have long passed, yet Wenka still sits in a concrete prison four decades later. Wenka is the oldest known chimpanzee in a U.S. lab, and during her lifetime she has been used in studies that include alcohol, oral contraceptives, aging, and cognitive studies at Yerkes National Primate Research Center in Atlanta. During her lifetime she has had her babies taken away, she has had cell-mates she has bonded with come and go, but for the most part she has had a sad solitary life.

The suffering of chimpanzees and other animals used for research is not limited to what goes on in actual experiments. Their day-to-day existence in a laboratory is traumatic in itself. Chimpanzees experience ongoing mental and physical suffering from the endless boredom, confinement, and fear and stress of daily laboratory life. Former employees at Yerkes say that Wenka suffers from severe stress. She can be seen rocking back and forth, and is said to have a 1000 mile stare. Wenka has endured enough abuse in the name of science. After five decades in a cell, and only a few remaining years left, Wenka deserves to be at peace in a chimpanzee sanctuary.

We, the animal rights activists are striving to change the turkey animal protection law 5199 that is not enough.

The researches show that the next victims of the offenders that commit these brutal crimes are the children, the elderly and the disabled, who make up the weakest links in the society.

Even though we obtained a promise from the government for the change of the current inadequate law 5199, for some reason this promise is yet to be fulfilled. The signatures will be a reminder for the Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Charlie has no shelter, is chained up by the neck that is connected to a pole stuck in the ground. It is clear that the monkey lives chained to the ground with out shelter all the time. Guests are encouraged to trow beer bottles and objects at Charlie for entertainment, and many people did trow things at Charlie. And the staff were trying to make guests stay for dinner by telling us they were going to feed Charlie beer at 7pm for entertainment. Charlie had a rope around him, that people could not cross, other wise Charlie would attack and bite you. He looked very sad and angry and tried to attack many people near it, during the short time that I was with the monkey. A person told the staff they shouldn't treat a monkey like that. They replied and said "who cares its just a monkey".

When calf-roping, chuck racing and bull riding were introduced to rodeos, the scientific community had yet to confirm what our intuitions already told us -- animals feel fear and pain in ways startlingly similar to our own. But science has long since confirmed this, and it must now be understood that Canadians will not support animal suffering, least of all for entertainment. As Wayne Pacelle, the President of the Humane Society of the United States, explains: "With our new knowledge of how animals think and feel come new obligations in how we care for them."

At 8 weeks old, a small black and white kitten named Dexter is lucky to be alive after his owner and her two young sons took him to a neighborhood park and beat him and another kitten with an aluminum bat. Dexter is clinging to life, but his brother died as a result of his injuries.

Four children at a park in Brooksville, Florida watched in horror last Friday evening when they saw 24-year-old Wilana Joenel Frazier and her two sons -- one 8 years old and the other 5 -- torture the two small kittens.

Demand justice for the tortured kittens.

Frazier hit the kittens with a baseball bat and encouraged her children to kick the animals and throw them against a tree. Then they placed the kittens on a swing. When one of the animals died, the boys put him in a trash can and covered him with water.

By the time Linda Christian, a Hernando County Animal Services officer, arrived on the scene little Dexter had been rescued and wrapped in a white T-shirt by one of the boys who witnessed the event. Blood was running from the kitten's nose and mouth. Soon he began to have seizures from the trauma to his brain.

When Christian touched the kitten, he began to convulse. Christian told the St. Petersburg Times, "I thought I was going to lose him at that point. It was very upsetting."

Christian rushed Dexter to the Pet Luv Nonprofit Spay and Neuter Clinic and miraculously the small ball of fur has survived the first few critical days. Employees at the clinic care for him during the day and a veterinary technician has been taking him home each night.

Dexter is able to keep his medication down, is eating from a feeding tube and has started to walk a little on his own. But veterinarians are still very concerned about potential damage to Dexter's brain and are not sure if he will ultimately succumb to his injuries.

Rick Silvani, president of Pet Luv said, "All animals have a right to life, but a helpless, defenseless kitten... You don't know what to say. It's just incomprehensible." The group has agreed to cover the costs of Dexter's medical care.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office questioned Frazier, but she denied being involved and said her children were not part of the beating either. However authorities charged Frazier on two counts of cruelty to animals and two charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She is out of jail on $3,500 bail.

On October 23rd 2010 Evansville, IN police were summoned to a residence in the 1600 block of South Morton avenue following neighbor complaints of a foul odor coming from the home. Upon entering the home police discovered the decomposing bodies of 2 dogs locked in their kennels and another dog and puppy were discovered in the basement. It was determined that the animals had been deceased for at least 2 months due to starvation and dehydration. The owner of the home, Latiese Jovan Reed had not been seen by neighbors for several months as well her landlord reported that her utilities had not been paid for several months indicating that the home and animals had been abandoned by Reed.

Levy County, FL - A Golden Retriever was the victim of a vicious attack by a man trying to "punish" his brother-in-law for putting a small dent in his truck.

Behind the horrific act is Gary Denning of Trenton - the victim, a Golden Retriever.

The brutal incident occurred on May 19 - police responded to a 911 call placed by Gavin Denning after Gary Denning's daughter ran screaming from the home - terrified by her father's actions.

Gary Denning had attacked the dog with a machete - severing the innocent dog's spine. Though the dog was severely wounded, it was still alive when the police arrived to investigate.

From the Levy County Police release:

Denning stated that the dog was not aggressive towards him and he was getting the victim back for the small dent in his truck.

Denning's daughter (Juvenile) was in the residence when the attack occurred.The juvenile stated that she heard the dog yelping and attempting escape this brutal and unnecessary attack.The juvenile screamed to her father to stop and he turned with the machete in his hand, but didn't say anything to her.The juvenile stated that her father's behavior frightened her and she immediately ran out of the house.

Sadly, the injuries were so severe that the dog had to be humanely euthanized.

Hopefully the courts will punish Gary Denning appropriately for this horrific act of cruelty. His actions clearly show him to be a dangerous individual.

Gary Denning was arrested on domestic battering and animal cruelty charges.

Despite the fact that we are living in the 21st century and despite the the fact that it it part of the European Union, Romania%u2019s approach towards animals has remained disgustingly cruel.

For the past two decades, Romanian leaders have allowed hundreds of thousands of stray dogs to be killed.

Despite the fact that this mass killing was proved ineffective in extincting the dogs living on streets, despite the fact that the only programme that has been proved to be an effective solution to extincting stray dogs from the streets is sterilisation and despite the fact that euthanasia costs 62 Euro,while sterilisation costs only 15 Euro, the Romanian Commission of Public Administration wants to reintroduce euthanasia of dogs in Romania.

The majority of stray dogs are very fearful (after years of abuse from people) or friendly. A few of them, sick of being maltreated, hit or chased by people, dare to bite their attacker. These dogs are said to be dangerous. They are not! If no man attacks they are harmless. The majority of them are starving, ill or wounded and starved for affection.

At this point Romania is Europe%u2019s butcher and it does not deserve to be treated as a modern country, but as a criminal, unworthy of clearance.

A modern country would sterilise and vaccinate the stray dogs, then it would provide shelter for the aggressive dogs and it would release or arrange the adoption of those which do not present a public danger.

News report - 25th May 2011 - DAQAHLYIA, Egypt: In an unusual move to revive Egyptian tourism, a young Egyptian man has announced he will fight an African lion.

Al-Sayed al-Essawy said he bought the lion, which weighs 280 kilograms (617lb), for 25,000 EGP (U.S. $4,200).

Al-Essawy, who lives in Daqahlyia governorate, has finished the iron cage and said he will train with the lion and will be prepared mentally to face the lion. He said this mental preparation takes more than five hours.

On May 25 the Auckland Council voted to approve the acquisition of two more elephants for the city's zoo to join Burma, the 28 year-old elephant who could live another 40 years of a miserable life in this zoo.

Elephants are highly intelligent, complex and self-aware individuals who have evolved for long distance living. In the wild they range tens of miles a day, live in large, tight-knit family groups, and communicate with one another at great distances. Yet zoos keep elephants in tiny exhibits of a few acres or less, where lack of movement and standing on hard surfaces cause painful foot infections and arthritis, the leading causes of euthanasia in captive-held elephants. The stress and boredom of intensive captivity results in abnormal behaviors such as repetitive swaying and head bobbing.

The process to bring the elephants to New Zealand includes a quarantine in their country of origin, flying them to the island of Niue for medical checks and more quarantine procedures before coming to Auckland. Yet Auckland's Mayor defends the Council vote by saying that the decision was important in helping Auckland become a major tourist destination and making the city the capital of events.

Despite strong opposition, the Auckland zoo pushed forward their plans, claiming that having elephants in captivity helps elephants in the wild and shamefully the City Council supported the idea.

Please ask the Auckland City Council and Auckland Zoo's director Jonathan Wilcken to cancel their plans to import two elephants and to better consider sending Burma to an elephant shelter overseas.

We ask for a thorough investigation into this atrocity. We ask that the veterinarian Cristian Pencu be suspended without pay, for the entire duration of the investigation. We ask for all tests done to determine that ALL THE DOGS at the shelter were contaminated with Distemper, be released to the media.

We ask for the resignation of the Deputy-Mayor, Florin Ghiorghita, who gave the order to KILL all dogs, based only on two handwritten pieces of paper given to him by the veterinarian. We expect one of the most honest and severe investigation possible and we ask that all persons found guilty be punished in the most severe way, at the full extend of the law.
It is incomprehensible how those dogs who looked so well the day before their slaughter, have been deemed sick, incurable and killed without mercy.

On Friday, April 29, 2011 Jennifer Petkus, owner and operator of the Thyme & Sage Ranch in Cazenovia, Wisconsin will be sentenced on multiple convictions of animal cruelty.

In 2009 more than 300 dogs, cats, horses and other animals were rescued from her non-profit animal sanctuary" after numerous complaints from the public about adopting sick and dying dogs.

They were found living in deplorable conditions with little or no food or water. Some had open wounds, ear and eye infections, fur matted with urine and feces and internal infections.

In addition, an abnormally large number of the dogs were pregnant which lead investigators to believe Petkus was breeding the dogs and running a puppy mill with previously abandoned animals.

Now that Ms. Petkus has been found guilty we ask that her sentencing fit the crime. We ask that she is banned for life from having contact with animals, that a lien be placed on her property to repay the animal rescue groups that took custody of her dogs and that Ms Petkus enter into a mental health program.

Granted, you'll find local laws forbidding the above - but often enough neither local authorities nor elements
of the executive authorities do comply with the laws.Even the most barbarian cruelties to animals go without prosecution
because it is not avenged, as a rule.

On December 1st, 2009 the treaty of Lisbon (so-called EU reformation treaty) became effective.
The major agreement states that the Union and its member states have to take account of the well-being of the animals as feeling beings.
But the ratification of this treaty does not automatically imply the end of the brute widespread deaths.
This is why we need to suit the action to the word.

This is Kral, a wonderful turkish dog that has been living trapped in a cage at a vet clinic in Istanbul. Kral, a stray dog living in the city of Yalova found himself lying on the floor, bleeding. He had been shot in the back by a policeman.

The dog was rescued by a man, Ismail, who rushed him to the clinic. Unfortunately, Kral would remain paralyzed for life. Ismail didnt know what to do with the dog so he entrusted him to Dr. Cemaliye Yegane, owner of PETERINER a small veterinary clinic in Nisantasi, Istanbul and asked them to take care of the dog whilst a home was found but a home was never found.

For over a year Kral has been living in conditions you can see here. About a couple of months ago Let's Adopt members heard of this case and they stepped in. First they offer their help in rehoming the dog, their help was initially accepted, then they purchased a wheelchair for the dog so that he would regain mobility. Our members then offered to get Kral out of the cage and take him as a foster whilst a final home was found.

The veterinarian, Dr. Cemaliye Yegane clearly annoyed at the possibility of loosing his longest staying paying client turned completely uncooperative. She said Kral was under the supervision of one of her clients, a mentally deranged individual who didn't wish for him to ever leave the clinic.

For over two weeks we have been negotiating the release of Kral, to no avail.Today we found out that the veterinarian, Dr. Cemaliye Yegane and her clients have taken a decision. Kral will never leave the clinic. He is good where he is, living in that cage. At this point we are going to request the help of our entire community to solve this case.

Kral's health is deteriorating quickly and he is developing horrible contact sores due to lack of exercise. If his condition continues deteriorating we believe he will die in a matter of months if not weeks.

We need your help, here is what to do:
1. Please share this post in your profiles. It doesnt matter where you are. Just share it. Exposure is the only thing that is going to get Kral out of the cage where he is in. Be his voice. Share this story worldwide.

2. Call Dr. Cemaliye Yegane on 90 212- 246-3171 or if you are abroad send her an SMS on her mobile: 90 532- 440- 3940 and demand the immediate release of Kral into Lets Adopt! custody. On April 6, 2011, I received a call from my 16 year old niece about 5:30pm CST. She lives in Columbia County in Lake City, Florida 32055. She told me that she had come across a 4 month old puppy that she believed ingested Antifreeze. She said the puppy was dying and she needed help. I was told that the puppies mouth was locked shut and she could not open it, her tongue was swollen and she was very weak.

With me being all the way in Indiana it was almost impossible to help. I called a Lake City Animal Hospital and spoke with Dr. Leslie. She told me that they had a treatment for anti freeze poisoning but she did not keep it in her office that we would have to get the puppy to the Gainesville Animal Hospital Emergency Room right away. My niece does not have a vehicle so this was impossible.

I called the Lake City police department and was told that the police department did not handle animal calls. I asked what they did if they found a sick animal on the street. He told me that they would pick it up and put in in an overnight area for Animal Control to get the next day. I told him the puppy would die before Animal Control got into their offices. I asked if that is what happens to all of their sick animal calls. The police man told me that they have never come across a case like this.

Because of my persistance, they were able to page someone from Animal Control. His name was T.J. I explained the situation to him. He said that his manager told him that this is not a call that they would handle. By the time they would get to pick up the puppy, it would be dead. If they did pick up the animal, they would charge my 16 year old neice $65.00 then they would go back to the office and euthenize the puppy. I said that I spoke with a vet and there is a treatment for antifreeze poisoning and he told me that they only have animals vaccinated. Anything else, they just put the animal to sleep. I asked how they could call themselves a humane society if they don't do anything to save the animals. I was then told that they were not a humane society but animal control. By this time, I was frustrated, angry, and upset to the point of crying. This poor puppy is dying and no one would help it.

Booka did pass away during the night, I am sure in immense pain due to the poisoning. Please help me make a call for action in Columbia County and Lake City to let them know that there has to be more done for these sick animals then was done on this day.

I am in construction so this is very common in the winter months. When I arrived home I saw Taz was not there, so I immediately began to look for him. He was born on 12-05.2006 and raised up by his keeper Thomas Dörflein.
Knuts life was watched by the whole world and enchanted the people.
All the more painfull is now the sudden death of Knut.

Now they consider to prepare the body of Knut and exhibit him in a museum.
This is not the wish of the most people who watched and accomponyed Knuts life.

German Shepherd Dogs were found living in their own waste without food, water or heat in a house of horrors in February in Cresco, PA, USA. There were 10 dogs total, 3 were found dead and the others were emaciated, matted and covered in feces and urine. These dogs were continuelly breed, never saw the light of day, and never left their jail cells.
Peter Zervas, who ownes the sucessful Blue Comet Diner in Hazelton, PA, USA, left the dogs without any care for approximately a month or more in the brutally cold winter.
Zervas told police that he paid somebody to take care of the dogs but did not know the man's phone number or address. This is not Zervas's first brush with the law. In 1991 he was arrested for receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy and corrupt organizations for his involvement with a burglary ring.
These full grown German Shepherds weighed between 40-45 lbs when found. Normal weight for this breed is 65-95 lbs. This video tells it all.

Peter Zervas, owner of the Blue Comet diner in Hazelton, PA will appear before Judge John D. Whitesell on MARCH 30TH @ 9:30 AM on charges of animal cruelty stemming from the starvation deaths of 3 German Shepherds and the emaciated condition of the remaining 7 German Shepherds.
Police near Hazleton, responding to a call about abandoned dogs, found a horrific scene in a dark garage with dead and dying German Shepherds, including puppies, lying in filth.
A neighbor in the town of Swiftwater discovered the abandoned dogs and reported it to police.
When police arrived, they found three dead puppies and seven starving adult dogs. They were transported to veterinary hospitals in very poor condition, rescuers said.

A vet estimated the dogs went for a month without food.

It is now time that Peter Zervas answers to 10 counts of animal cruelty. Please join us in asking Judge Whitesell to bestow the maximum sentence for this horrific crime.

The Romanian Parliament's Committee for Public Administration Territorial Planning and Ecological Balance intends to make a new law regarding the management of strays....and they want :
- the dogs captured by the dog catchers will be PTS after 14 or maximum 60 days ( those considered dogs for fights, aggressive breeds will be PTS after 48h or 10 days ; those sick will be PTS immediately )

- sick animals will not be given for adoption.
- those who feed or take care of strays will be fined
- the minimum conditions for the captures, living quarters, transport, care ( food and shelter ) WILL BE ELIMINATED FROM the new law
- the clear description of how the euthanasia will be done and what substances are to be used WILL BE ELIMINATED FROM the new law...it will be replaced with " the euthanasia will be done by a specialist ".
- the non profit organizations for animal protection WILL HAVE NO RIGHT to complain about the living conditions of dogs in municipal shelters. the control will be done only by the Sanitary-veterinary Authority.
- the non profit organizations for animal protection WILL HAVE NO RIGHT to capture, take care or spat/neuter strays.
Horrible requirements for adoption from a municipal shelter :
- proof that one has the space necessary to have a pet
- proof that one has enough income to have a pet
- approval from the tenants in the same building that THEY allow you to have pets, and from one's close neighbors that THEY allow you to have more than 2 dogs
- and the adoption fees are astronomical for many Romanians..
I remind you the intentions of the deputies (from Committee of public administration) for dog management: mass incarceration in extermination camps and euthanasia of old, ill, aggressive dogs (considering the continuously abuses against animals from Romania this mean all dogs, they will deem any animal aggressive, without any kind of professional expertize...Aggressiveness can be provoked in any animal , any time, just to justify the killing... ).This is HOW Romania implements the international treaties and conventions....

PLEASE HAVE MERCY AND advise them TO PASS the Legislative Initiative ( Approved in unanimity by the Romanian Senate in 2007 , but held in-debated by this commission for years )

PL- X 912/19.12.2007 with regard to the management of animals ( strays ) which will complete the OUG 155/2001 : this Initiative will impose the IDENTIFICATION, the STERILIZATION, the REGISTRATION, the RETURN IN THE TERRITORY of stray dogs and cats and the building of REAL shelters for old and sick animals and the adoption of any of these animals by people who would like to adopt them.

We have known the serious fact demonstrated by a video posted on the social networks facebook and youtube where three policemen apparently graduates and for his accent native to the Atlantic Colombian coast where they keep tied a canine female who they proceed to kill with a spade to then be hung.

Being the Police the first hand of justice and has to be in permanent contact with people so helpless and innocent as it is this animal. In accordance with the animal protection law, having the national police force available ecological police, undermining the peace and moral as well as against good order and justice that the police force protects and preserves we urge to immediately initiate an investigation of the whereabouts of these pseudo-police officers and to be punished accordingly to the order established by this force.

Exert power over the society and the law grants them stain the name of the police and criminals and murderers are being capable of killing and shooting death of an innocent. These three individuals violate the ethical principles and police as the value, transparency, solidarity, respect, justice, discipline, honesty considered by the same police force as a prerequisite for admission to the institution and set out on page online of this force.

These cops should never be near children and vulnerable and should undergo a full psychiatric treatment because they are dangerous to society. The main requirement for police is providing security to all members of society with emphasis on smaller and insignificant, that is the sense of justice.

hemos conocido el grave hecho evidenciado por video colgado en las redes sociales facebook y youtube en donde tres policías al parecer bachilleres y por su acento oriundos de la costa atlántica colombiana mantienen amarrada a una hembra canina la cual proceden a matar con una pala para luego ser ahorcada .
Siendo la policía la primera mano de la justicia en contacto permanente con personas tan desvalidas e inocentes como lo es este animalito ,en concordancia con la ley de protección animal ,teniendo la policía nacional una fuerza disponible como policía ecológica, atentando contra la tranquilidad y la moral así como contra el bien el orden y la justicia que la fuerza policial ampara y preserva los instamos de manera inmediata a iniciar una investigación que de con el paradero de estos pseudopolicias y sean sancionado como corresponde al orden establecido por esta fuerza.

A dog-sled company in Whistler, British Columbia, ordered the killing of 100 dogs in April, 2010, when bookings for adventure tourism slumped after the Olympic Games.

Vancouver radio station CKNW obtained documents revealing that 100 healthy sled dogs were killed in a mass slaughter at Outdoor Adventures Whistler last April 21 and 23.

If that wasn't bad enough, the story actually gets worse. From CKNW: (Warning - this is pretty gruesome reading.)

Worksafe BC documents obtained by CKNW say an employee has been granted compensation after developing post traumatic stress disorder for having to kill the dogs himself over a two day period.

Lawyer Cory Steinberg says the employee "..... ended up having to do it...I guess the only way to describe it was "near misses". It wasn't always a clean, one-shot kill. Inevitably he ended up seeing and having to put the end to some horrific scenes."

Steinberg speaks on behalf of the worker who doesn't want to be named.

In most cases dogs were shot more than once, or had their throats slashed before they were pitched into what is described in the documents as a mass grave. Some were still alive.%u2028

The company didn't contest the Worksafe injury claim. In fact, they even made a correction, where the worker stated he had killed 70 dogs, the company corrected and wrote he had actually killed 100.

According to CKNW, Mary Moriarty, the head of cruelty investigations at the BC SPCA says they are launching an investigation, after reviewing the Worksafe BC file. She adds that it's a dirty secret of the industry that so many dogs are bred purely out of greed.

Moriarty says there appear to have been breaches of the animal cruelty act in the cull and criminal charges are a possibility.

Well, yes. A brief reading of Canada's Animal Cruelty Act states that there is zero tolerance for animal cruelty.

It's hardly surprising that the Outdoor Adventures employee suffered post traumatic stress disorder and is entitled to compensation, but there is no way to grant compensation to those dogs.

It was recently announced that Violeta Dobreva (who fostered Mima for only 2 weeks) has been given the green light by a court in Bulgaria to hear her suit against the German-Bulgarian Street Animal Emergency Help NGO for custody of Mima, and have her be returned to Bulgaria after Mima has been living in Germany with her new family for the past 9 months.

We, animal advocates and the officers and members of the Facebook group, "Justice for Mima" with over 35,000 members from around the world including Bulgaria ask for Mima to be left alone. We have closely followed Mima's case from the beginning, since March, 2010 when Mima was found tortured in a village in Bulgaria. All of Mima's 4 legs were brutally chopped off over an old conflict between neighbors. Hers is one of the most heinous acts of cruelty we have come across. It brought thousands of us together to help Mima and bring change in a country where animal cruelty is still not a crime. After all she has been through, she deserves all the love and happiness life has to offer and in our opinion that is with her family in Germany where she has flourished these past 9 months.

Despite her physical and psychological handicap, Mima has been living happily in a private mansion in Germany with her new brothers and sisters (6 handicap dogs and cats from Bulgaria). She has learned to trust humans again with the love and dedication of her adoptive parent, Mrs. Eva Linkogel, a lifelong animal activist and rescuer who has been caring for Mima 24/7. She has also developed a special bond with her best friend Daria, a handicapped dog who is always by Mima's side. For the first time in her life, Mima has learned to be loved and be part of a family. She cannot be placed in a more perfect home. To take this all away would be so cruel and truly devastating for Mima!

We believe Violeta Dobreva's letter of April 21, 2010 to be forthright when she first relinquished Mima early in the case. Mrs. Dobreva should be a person of honor and keep her word instead of pursuing this fight for custody. Real love means selflessness-- set Mima free and let her be happy.

We as a group have never officially taken a side on the custody battle until the news of the court case. Even after Mrs. Dobreva deceived us out of our $8,000USD group ChipIn donation meant for Mima, we still kept the custody separate so as not to hurt the cause. (Incidentally, we still demand that our group donation, which is still unaccounted be transferred to our 2 chosen NGOs to help the animals in Bulgaria as outlined by Nadia Donato in her many messages to Mrs. Dobreva ). In light of the recent news about the court hearing, we can no longer remain neutral on this issue. We cannot sit idly by and let another tragedy happen to Mima without a fight. This is not about Bulgaria vs. Germany, nor is it about the fight for animal rights. We strongly believe this is a fight for one's own personal agenda. Our allegiance is to Mima, not to any country or person involved in this dispute. Mima has touched our hearts; her life means so much to so many of us.

We urge Mrs. Dobreva to drop the lawsuit, end this fight once and for all, and be happy for Mima that she has found the best loving home.

If Mrs. Dobreva still chooses to pursue custody, we are hopeful that the honorable judge will be fair and wise in his ruling and that the outcome will be on Mima's best interest.

Early Saturday morning, New Years Day, a three month old pitt bull puppy was beaten to death; brutally, and intentionally.
When police arrived to the Travelers Inn, downtown Victoria, B.C., after repeated reports and complaints of a puppy crying out in pain and the sounds of someone beating it, a grusome and very disturbing scene greeted them; the puppy on the bed, unresponsive, unmoving....Bloody towels and dog feces were found throughout the suite.

The 24 year old 'man' that was arrested alone in the suite was not the owner of this sweet, innocent and helpless puppy, but was actually looking after it. He DESERVES the maximum charges and sentencing!! What he has done is absolutely, horrifically unacceptable! By his own hands he brutally, intentionally beat and killed, a helpless baby animal in which was left in his care.
According to reports, autopsy showed the puppy died as a result of multiple fractures and internal injuries.

This 'man' should be BANNED from EVER owning, or caring for, any animals; should be charged AND sentenced with the MAXIMUM penalty of the law, and undergo some serious anger/mental evaluations!!! This brutal murder must not go unaccounted for, must not go unpunished!!

Clearly this practice is abhorrent, as is the breeding and cruel slaughter of animals for the sole purpose of profiteering.

New Hanover County Animal Control has allowed this breed specific murder go on far to long and we have to do something about it.
These pit bulls,chows and mixes of the breed are not allowed to be adopted out at this facility,even puppies are killed because of what the staff decides they are. New Hanover County Animal Control does not even do dna tests on these animals to see if they really are the breed that is deemed "un adoptable" ,this shelter claims they do not have the funds for it,but yet they charge 150 dollars and climbing for people to get their pet out of the pound. Everyone in this county has to pay a registration fee to have their pets in the first place. Where is all this money going?
I called to find out why they dont adopt out these breeds and the answer i got was simply"we cant adopt out those kinds of dogs".......i think this county deserves more of an explanation!

Each year worldwide millions of mice die after enduring the unbearable suffering of Botox testing, in which lethal doses of the drug are injected into groups of laboratory mice to test its potency.

Animal rights campaigners in the United States and Europe have long been urging the leading American pharmaceutical company, Allergan, which owns and markets Botox, to stop testing the product on mice, and to adopt instead one of the reliable, effective alternative tests not using animals.

The test currently used, known as the LD50 test, involves injecting the botulinum toxin type A (the active ingredient in Botox) into a group of mice in sufficient quantities to kill 50% of the animals. Millions of these tests are carried out each year. The toxin is injected into the mouse's abdomen, then researchers wait to see how many of the animals die over a period of 3 to 4 days. About 100 mice are normally used for each test, and each batch is often tested more than once. The mice are first assigned to one of various groups, and each group receives a different strength of the product in order to estimate the strength that kills half of the targeted group.

The antiquated LD50 test, first developed in the 1920's, is cruel and brutal. No pain relief is administered to the test animals, who either die immediately from suffocation after their diaphragms have been paralysed, or may languish over several days with varying degrees of paralysis before being euthanised.

U. S. and European authorities have identified a number of replacement tests NOT using animals that, once validated and adopted by drugs manufacturers, would replace the LD50 test. In contrast to the LD50 test, these alternatives apply modern technology and insights from cutting-edge research in molecular biology and immunology into the toxic effects of botulinum toxin on the organism. The two most promising alternatives are the endopeptidase assay and the neural cell-based assay, also known as "SNAP-25" tests.

The U. S. Food and Drug Administration does not specifically require manufacturers of drugs using the botulinum toxin to employ the LD50 test; rather it requires the "performance of a sensitive potency assay."

Please urge Allergan to show courage and true leadership by validating and adopting one of these humane alternatives.

Following an outbreak of Foot & Mouth disease in South Korea, the authorities have refused to have animals vaccinated and are instead doing a mass cull. Slaughtered humanely? No! They're burying them alive!

Foot and mouth disease affects all cloven hoofed animals such as pigs, cattle and goats, and any country that has cases of it is unable to export the animals' meat.

The South Korean government has so far refused to vaccinate pigs against the disease and is now slaughtering them in record numbers despite appeals to stop.

On January 4 in one area of Gangwon-Do, 33,900 pigs alone were destroyed, according to the OIE

Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) has said that South Korea's actions contravene international guidelines. Michele Danan from the organisation said: "Live vaccinations are the best route but if they do have to kill them we would prefer that they were at least slaughtered humanely."

The estimated cost of the cull so far is believed to have reached around £230m when a mass vaccination programme would have cost an estimated £63m.

Some animal rights campaigners have criticised the government for putting economic considerations ahead of animal welfare.

The Republic has begun inoculating cattle in some areas and the OIE reported on Thursday that sows and boars are starting to be vaccinated but only in a few locations.

It is believed the live burial of pigs began at Christmas and the figure is likely to climb far above the one million mark.

Joyce D’Silva, Director of Public Affairs for CIWF said: "Compassion in World Farming is appalled that the Republic of Korea is allegedly throwing pigs into pits and burying them alive.

"This is totally contrary to international guidelines on humane culling, which the Korean government endorsed five years ago.

"We urge the Korean government to end this horrendous practice at once and to ensure that, if animals are culled, this is done humanely."

Greenville, S.C. - Losing faith in humanity, one dog at a time. Unbelievably, another story about a dog caught on fire at the hands of cruel people. Yesterday, a story about Lady, the dog doused with gasoline and lit on fire on Halloween.
This morning, a heart-wrenching story of a dog in Greenville suffering from extensive burns after his dog house was set on fire. It gets worse...the dog house was over-turned on the dog, the dog was chained, and there was a cinderblock placed on the dog's head to prevent him from moving.
The dog had been left behind by his owner at a home that was for sale. The owner left the dog chained in the backyard so that he could "keep an eye on things'. How a chained dog, confined to an empty backyard is supposed to protect a home is a mystery....
A neighbor told WYFF4 News that the burned dog had been chained in the backyard for 11-12 years. Though the neighbor was stating that the dog never caused anyone any trouble, her statement is profoundly sad.
In the neighbor's statement, there is no mention that it is tragic that the dog spent 11-12 years on the end of a chain. There is no mention that it is heart-breaking that the dog was alone in the backyard, a vulnerable target to predators.
The burned dog, named Pookie, is currently being treated at the North Greenville Animal Hospital. He is in severe pain from injuries to his face, especially his eyes and nose. However, he is expected to survive.
The homeowner/dog owner has relinquished her rights to the dog and Pookie will be in need of a new home. Individuals interested in adopting Pookie can phone Animal Care Services at 864-467-3950.
Individuals hoping to help donate funds for Pookie's medical care can either call 864-467-3954, or mail donations to: Animal Care Services at 328-C Furman Hall Rd., Greenville, SC 29609.

The incident occurred Tuesday, late afternoon at a home located in the 200 Block of Perry Avenue. If you saw anything out of the ordinary, please pick up the phone and call the police. This person must be punished.

On Dec 14, 2010 the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) decides whether or not to renew a permit that keeps Tony, a 10-year old Siberian/Bengal tiger, caged as a road-side attraction at a truck stop. Renewal of this permit means that Tony would be condemned to yet another year of suffering.

Tony has lived his entire life in a concrete and steel cage near gas pumps, subjected to fumes, noise, and traffic 24/7. He is frequently taunted by visitors and exhibits abnormal pacing behavior. Please let the LDWF know that this "attraction" is inhumane and Tony should be surrendered to a big cat sanctuary to receive the care he deserves.

Laurie Crouch is a 23 year old woman who lives with multiple sclerosis from a wheelchair. Her 3 year old pet pit bull and service dog, Gooch was killed October 14, 2010 during a routine nail clip by a groomer who makes home visits.

The groomer cut Gooch's quick and the dog struggled. Laurie watched helplessly as the groomer wrapped a leash around Gooch's muzzle and lifted him off the ground by a prong collar. The groomer and her assistant both literally sat on the dog to get the nail clip done. Laurie instructed the groomer to stop the nail clip but she refused, telling Laurie she came all this way and she intended to finish the job and get paid.

Gooch died right in front of Laurie's eyes. A necropsy determined cause of death as suffocation and found brain and liver hemorrhaging. Gooch had bloody foam in his throat by the time the groomer finished.

The police are still investigating and are working with the county prosecutor to determine IF charges will be brought against the groomer. Kuwait is the major destination for Australian sheep in the Middle East. Some 22 million Australian sheep have been exported to Kuwait over the past 20 years.

In early 2004 and again in 2006 Animals Australia investigators visited Kuwait and brought the brutal treatment of sheep and cattle in Kuwait at the Shuwaikh abattoir and the Al Rai livestock market to the attention of the Australian Federal government and live export industry.

Animals Australia has implored both the Australian government and Meat & Livestock Australia to at the very least reduce the risks posed to exported Australian animals by ensuring that they were not onsold to individual buyers an outcome that they could legitimately achieve through requirements in export permits and exporter/importer agreements. Neither the Australian government nor the live export industry was willing to take this obvious measure to reduce suffering.

Last month Animals Australia's Lyn White returned to Kuwait for the Festival of Sacrifice and visited once again the Kuwaiti livestock market and abattoir that had presented such grave animal welfare concerns in the past.

"The streets of the Al Rai market on the morning of the Eid turned into a mass slaughter area for animals. Australian sheep were being purchased, bound with wire and shoved into car boots whilst others were being dragged terrified on their stomachs towards filthy slaughter areas on the side of roads where they waited amongst the dead and dying to have their throats cut.

"The treatment of two young dairy bulls was so horrendous that it was almost soul destroying to witness. One was killed on the side of the road, and the other in a carpentry workshop. After magazine "Alo!" published the story and wrote few articles about cruel capture and abuse of stray dogs in Zaje%u010Dar, there editorial office start to get e-mails from animal lovers who sent photos of abused animals. They claimed all photos they send are authentic and from this city, also demanding that public be alert to this brutality on animals through medias, in order to finally ends with it.
Among last photos are images of dead female dog and capture dogs in filthy cages in the public pound.

- Quarantine of incoming animals to identify diseases and prevent spread;
- Care and humane treatment including prompt veterinary care, adequate nutrition (i.e., kitten food for kittens and puppy food for puppies), water, exercise, and environmental enrichment;
- Expanded adoption hours to some nights and extended weekend hours, 7 days a week, to give working individuals an opportunity to reclaim or adopt;

ENGLISH: Jean D'Arc was a severely disabled dog living in Tekirdag, Turkey. She was a double amputee stray dog living in the Tekridag animal shelter. She had two adoption prospects one in Istanbul and another in Germany. The day they went to the Tekirdag shelter to get her, the volunteers learned that she disappeared. This was 10 days ago. A number of people inquired to the Tekridag County to find out what had happened to this poor soul. All people heard were conflicting stories. They said she was not one of the shelter dogs. They said she used to come to the shelter and disappear for a couple of days. When the volunteers asked about the beer bottles in the shelter cages, no one gave an answer.
At last, Tekirday county officials said that they found the body of the poor girl. The volunteers wanted to retrieve the body to perform a necropsy to figure out what happened. The county was silent.

On November 15th, 2010, the Lithuanian press published a mind-blowing story. Nineteen dogs and one beaver, were found dead in a ditch by a road in Kaunas, Lithuania. The animals had been skinned, and examinations revealed that some of them had their limbs and sex organs removed. Just a few days after this announcement, stories appeared in the Lithuanian media stating that the animals were not actually dogs, but in fact foxes, beavers and some other animals. The state of decomposition of the bodies may have led to the initial conclusion that they were dogs. Either way, a terrible act of cruelty was inflicted on innocent animals, and that is the crucial point here.
Anyway, just a month before this, in October, similar executions of innocent animals occurred in the city of Kaunas. In this incident seventeen eviscerated dogs were found. For some incomprehensible reason this horrible act was not deemed news worthy, and was not published or reported in the media at all; the incident only came to light after the November 15th story was published. Also, in September 2010 Lithuanian police received a report about a dog that had been cruelly tortured, again in Kaunas. Staff at the veterinary clinic where the animal was brought said that the poor dog was close to death, and was missing some of his fur too. Their findings also suggested that this dog's injuries were almost definitely inflicted by one or more people, in what seemed to be an attempt to skin him alive. Thankfully this dog survived, although he is still fighting for his life after the incident.
All in all,the most worrying part of these stories is that the punishment for animal cruelty in Lithuania is very small. It is mostly just a slight fine, and I believe it should be a more severe penalty. Particularly in this case, when some people seem more concerned that this is a littering issue rather than an animal rights one. Will we let those criminals who kill and torture animals for their fur, or those psychopaths who kill for pleasure elude the life sentence they deserve?

Two University of Guadalajara academic centers (Health Sciences along with Biological and Agricultural Sciences) have been criticized for still receiving live animals from the animal control centers and for sweeping up animals off the street to use them as part of its medical and scientific practices in the areas of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, Odontology and Psychology. Apart from being a clear violation of the Mexican Official Standard (NOM 042 SSA) the practice is ethically wrong. Furthermore, the University of Guadalajara has a Center for Alternative Use of Animal in Education (CAAE) that has not been exploit to the fullest.
Dogs to be used for dissection and for practicing surgical procedures are either being captured in the street by trucks owned by the University or are being provided by third parties hired for the same purpose. In some cases, dogs are wearing tagged collars, showing they have owners. Other dogs are taken from the Animal Control Center in the nearby municipality of Tonala, Jalisco. The captured animals suffer from tremendous stress due to the conditions they are put through, even prior the %u201Ceducational%u201D practice. All the animals, including sometimes puppies and pregnant dogs are forced to live in cages, often going for days without any food, shade or water.
It has been through the evidence of photos, videos and the complaints of neighbors and some of the students deeply worried about the situation, the methods or torture and extreme cruelty these animals have to go through, as well as the poor health conditions the practices take place putting at risk the health itself of the students. Their testimonies describe the use of expired anesthetics and drugs that are employed in lower doses than required, before cutting open the animals. The result is that animals aren%u2019t properly sedated and frequently gain consciousness in the middle of the surgery when they have been already cut wide open, suffering from indescribable pain. In many cases their screams and moans are silent by beating them, and those in charge of the practices do not take into consideration the provisions applicable by law. Crying means the same in every language. Let`s s help to stop this disgraceful treatment towards animals.
