Stop the abuse of Irish Greyhounds and Racing Dogs. - The Petition Site

We the undersigned would plead with you to take serious action against the abuse of greyhounds used for racing and the racing itself. It was reported in the Irish Times of 1st August 2008 that a number of dead greyhounds were found terribly mutilated in a pool of water. The horrible action taken against these animals was in no doubt related to racing careers of these dogs. It is commonly known that many of these dogs are abused due to underperformance or injuries sustained while racing.

We petition you to ban this 'sport', as it is immoral and immoral to allow it to continue. There is no proper reason for its continuation and we hope that you will listen to the voices of those who have signed this petition.

I thank you kindly for taking the time to consider this and hope to hear of action being taken to end this blight once and for all.

Stop cruelty to Spanish greyhounds (galgos) - The Petition Site

You will find below the text of a Petition, initiated by Greyhounds in Need (GIN), addressed to the Spanish Government. It is especially important to bring this terrible cruelty to the fore at this time when Spain holds the Presidency of the Council of Europe.

The Treaties that form the European Community do not currently cover animal welfare so European-wide legislation is not possible and only the Spanish government can legislate to end the barbaric treatment of greyhounds in Spain.

Please add your signature to this Petition, before 30th April, 2010, so that we can show how widespread is European public concern.

Thank you,

Greyhounds in Need

Save the Philippines from Greyhound Racing. - The Petition Site

Save the Philippines from Greyhound Racing. - The Petition Site: "At the present time, there are two bills making their way through the House and Senate namely, Bill 5291 and Bill 5648. Both bills seek to establish Greyhound racing in Cebu and Luzon respectively. Their proponents tout Greyhound racing as an economic stimulus providing jobs and raising the standard of living in the immediate areas. But, historically, the opposite is true. Moral decay, crime, and hideous animal cruelty has been the norm. If both bills become law, the only beneficiaries will be the Fox New Millemium Amusement Club Inc. (FNMACI, Bill 5291) and the Southeast Asia Greyhound Racing Club Inc. (SAGRC, Bill 5648).

Thirty-six of the fifty American states prohibit Greyhound racing, and more tracks are folding across the country. Profit and attendance are down. People are simply no longer interested in Greyhound racing, a direct result of failed economic promises and the exposure of horrendous animal cruelty practiced in the business. Guam, just recently, ended their dog racing practice. New Hampshire closed down their tracks for good last month. One might ask, why is there an attempt to embrace something that others are hurriedly rejecting? Filipinos deserve better. The Philippines need not be the trash bin of the world.

Surely, the time and initiave of some legislators were wasted on these bills. Their ingenuity could bear better fruit if applied on more pressing matters like the establishment of a government-funded spay and neutering program. There are an estimated 3.2 million stray animals in the Philippines. Just look out your window if you're in the Philippines.

Here are twelve specific reasons, practical and humane, why these bills must not become law:

Ask your Governor to introduce legislation banning greyhound racing

Goal: 20,000 • Progress: 9,420

Sponsored by: The Animal Rescue Site

Greyhounds are loving creatures and great pets, but unfortunately, they are regarded as mere money-making machines in the racing world. Thousands of these animals face a lifetime of cruelty. Many are mistreated every year in order to be profitable at the racetracks, and then simply "discarded" after they can no longer race.
Ask your Governor to introduce legislation banning greyhound racing. Sign the petition and tell a friend.

Eight states in the U.S. have banned greyhound racing, but active racetracks exist in fourteen states, and legislation is still needed in others to ensure that the practice does not spread.
Greyhounds face a high probability of injury during their careers at the racetrack. Some are then bred to produce litter after litter, their owners hoping for a few fast dogs amid many that are deemed undesirable. Far too often, these noble creatures then face abandonment or death when they are considered unsuitable for racing due to age or other factors.
Help stop the inhumane treatment of these gentle dogs. Ask your Governor to introduce legislation banning greyhound racing.
