"Justice For Kiera!"

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/164/JUSTICE-FOR-KIERA

When Marianne Zelonis came home from work one Thursday evening in April, she found her beloved three year old German Shepherd Kiera lying motionless just yards away from home on a neighbor's lawn. "I jumped out of the car and ran over to her and she had a bullet hole to her temple...she was dead." Zelonis' next door neighbor admitted it was her son, Arthur Menechini, a resident of Pittston Township, PA , who shot Kiera, and said the shooting was in self defense. However, upon investigation police were unsure how Kiera could have escaped her yard and found no evidence supporting Menechini's claim that Kiera had threatened or attacked him and his mother's dog Coco on what many have cited as the first time the man had ever walked his mother's dog on a leash. In fact, Coco was allowed to run loose at all times of day and night, antagonizing Kiera and other neighbors. Kiera, on the other hand, was known to have a great personality, be even-tempered and good with both children and other animals. Moreover, there was a history of animosity between the families and Mr. Menechini had often made it clear he considered Kiera to be a "nuisance". Claiming his actions were justifiable, he turned down a plea deal this summer. This month in a plea hearing, Menechini's attorney's request for dismissal of all counts of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct was refused.

A bench trial has been scheduled for early January, with the presiding judge solely responsible for the verdict and if applicable, the sentence.

Mr. Menichini thinks he did nothing wrong - but there should be no tolerance for someone taking an innocent life in such a violent way. He needs to pay for his actions!

It is our intention to show our support for Arthur Menechini's conviction for the charges of animal cruelty and disorderly conduct. We also believe it is of utmost importance that Mr. Menechini receive the maximum sentence allowable; both to appropriately punish him for these crimes and to send an emphatic message that this type of violent behavior against animals and against a family's animal companion, will not ever be tolerated. It won't bring this family's precious pet back to them... but a strong sentence will in part bring them closure, and by discouraging similar acts of this kind in the future, assure that Kiera did not entirely die in vain.

Protect The Raccoons of Central Park NYC - The Petition Site

We the undersigned respectfully request the oral rabies vaccination (pellets) of Central Park's raccoons as opposed to the relocation or eradication of these animals. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this petition.

To The Honorable Mayor Of NYC Michael R. Bloomberg:

Please sir consider the option of oral rabies vaccination as opposed to relocation or eradication. The raccoons of Central Park are "urbanized" raccoons as opposed to rural raccoons and therefore likely not equipped to survive relocation to a rural area. The two rabid raccoons recently found in Central park were dead. Dr. Sally Slavinski of the NYC Dept. of Health stated to the press that those dead rabid raccoons may have been "dropped off" which is what many suspect. Over the past several months, there have been many people who have stated that they are organizing and writing letters to have the raccoons eradicated so that they may walk their dogs unleashed without any worries about raccoon attacks. Raccoons do not attack dogs, they run up into trees when chased by dogs or humans. Dogs are vaccinated against rabies because that is the law in New York, so they cannot contract rabies from raccoons. Although many of us understand the convenience of the unleashed dog walking issue, we do not believe that this is worth removing or eradicating raccoons which are free rodent control and an important part of the ecosystem of the parks in NYC. In addition to the aforementioned, please sir also consider the fact that the raccoons are a huge tourist attraction. All of the tourists are well aware of the rabies issue so they keep their distance as there are many "Do Not Feed The Wild Animals" signs which are clearly visible throughout the park. Like us, the tourists are only interested in catching a glimpse of and sometimes photographing these shy, beautiful, intelligent and fascinating animals. Thank you sir for reading this letter and petition.

I have recently found that trainer Tim Frisco is one of those people. I have read so much on his abusive tactic's and now on a baby elephant by the name of Val. I am here to do something about this. I need your help. With your signatures as help we can close this travisty down once and for all. It is time, don't you think to put a stop to the terrible, horrible way there creatures are treated during training. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Anita Murray Cook

STOP KILLING OF STRAYS IN BULGARIA - The Petition Site

Dear Attorney General Velchev,

Dear Deputy Prime Minister Plugtschieva, Dear Mayor Atanossov,

article 6 and article 7 of the Bulgarian animal protection act prohibit "the infliction of pain and every act or omission of an act, that causes permanent or repeated suffering for the animal".

The massacre of dogs in Plovdiv, during which 14 dogs were slain with iron bars by two animal keepers known to us by name before the eyes of two witnesses, not only grossly contradicts the applicable law and the elementary ethical standards, but also harms the esteem of your country.

WE DEMAND FROM YOU:

* The closing down of all camps for stray animals in Bulgaria and their conversion into animal shelters

* Severe punishment for those who torment, kill or maroon animals

* Immediate implementation of the castration programmes provided by the animal protection act

* Free access to the camps for stray animals for all citizens

Enforce the applicable law and make sure, that the isolators finally disappear from the moral map of Bulgaria. This is your duty, comply with it!

I will only visit Bulgaria again when your country considers its responsibility towards animals.

Justice for Shadow...Please Sign - The Petition Site

When the Scheeles went to visit relatives in Vermont, they did not expect their trip to end in horror. Shadow, their much beloved pet, wandered outside into a neighbor's yard where Lewis Dustin shot and killed Shadow for merely trespassing. Dustin was ordered to pay the Scheeles the cost of adopting Shadow, his veterinary bills and his cremation along with 100 hours of community service. This is not justice and the Scheeles are seeking further damages for the emotional heartache that they have suffered. As you may know already, the Scheeles are not doing this for monetary purposes. They want the courts to acknowledge Shadow as a member of the family and not as property. This is an extremely important case that will be heard in the spring and it could have tremendous impact. If this man is forced to pay a larger sum of money for the devastation he caused, it will send out a message to any idiot with a gun who decides to use it against an innocent animal. This is very important so I am asking you to please sign and if you can forward this to as many friends as you can.Once I close this petition, I will forward all of the names to the Scheeles and their attorney so that they can use this in court.

Freedom for Franklin a Thai Ridgeback Dog Petition

Tuesday, 15 December 2009 1 comments

Franklin is a 3 yr old purebred Thai Ridgeback dog who is being judged unfairly by people ignorant to his needs and this primitive rare breed. His breeder tried to get him back, the Thai Ridgeback Rescue Network with support from their national breed club wants him, the shelter staff and volunteers love him but the Board of Directors for this shelter want to destroy him because they "think" he "may" be dangerous "someday".

Reports confirm Franklin has lived in Washington state since he was a puppy. In those 3 years and has never caused harm to a human, animal, etc.

We demand fair treatment of this dog and wholeheartedly believe that banishing him, out of nothing but fear, stops now.

Urgent! Please help. Cats & Dogs getting killed by Poison on a very cruel way! - The Petition Site

In Hurghada, Egypt are a lot of stray dogs and cats. The government, private people and hotel managers try to get rid of them by dropping toxic baits on the streets and the hotel area. This is very cruel for the animals and very dangerous for humans as well.

Hurghadas boarder is on three sides desert and on one side we have got the sea. The problem is easily to get under control by sterilisation and castration of this animals. Poisoning them makes the problem worse. This procedure doesnt cause the minimizing of stray dogs and cats. It is pushing this problem to the top as it is proved in worldwide examinations. This decrease of animals is causing more stray puppies or kittens for the next born generation because of increasing the food for the animals that survive.

The problem will be double within one year and sterilization and castration is the only possibility to get red of this problem futurewise. The financial costs therefore havent to be carried by the government. There are enough volunteer organizations that are offering this service for free. It just needs the approbation of the government. Dear Signers, I wanna reach with your help and support that the governor of Hurghada will agree to stop the poisoning of stray dogs and cats by using toxic baits. This baits are very cruel for the animals, and a very high risk for the citizens as well. Strychnin or even a stronger poison is used for this toxic baits on the streets!

Methomyl pure is declared as an insect poison but it is a contact poison as well and often used in pure form or a mix for this baits. We feel this is a invasion of privacy for us, our children and our private pets.

The people dont feel safe to leave their houses and to know there can be toxic baits containing Strychnin or even more toxic ingredients everywhere on the street. Poison is easy to get with underhand deals. This is like an invitation for terroristic activities as well.

Pass the Shark Conservation Act - The Petition Site

Every year, millions of sharks are caught for their fins to feed the growing worldwide demand for shark fin soup. And this demand has led to drastic declines in shark populations around the world. Some populations have declined by as much as 99 percent in the past 35 years.

The Shark Conservation Act of 2009 would require that sharks be landed with their fins still attached, thus solving enforcement issues and facilitating better data collection. It also closes a loophole related to the transfer of fins at sea, which allows bad actors to circumvent the current law. Additionally, the bill allows the U.S. to take actions against countries that have weaker protections for sharks.

This act has already passed the House of Representatives and is now awaiting final action in the Senate. This is the perfect time to flood the Senate with letters supporting the act! Tell your Senators that you won't stand for anything less than full protection for sharks!
