To: Mayor Sorin Oprescu, Bucharest, Romania
Petition for employing new and humane personnel in the municipal dog shelter in Pallady, Romania. We have been given eyewitness testimony about the inhumane treatment of dogs in the municipal shelter of Pallady. Dogs of good health whom don't present any danger or threat to humans or other animals are apprehended by dogcatchers and taken to the shelter, where they are treated cruelly by personnel without knowledge nor empathy. The dogs suffer, in the shelter, by starvation, thirst and extreme fear due to the treatment of the staff who seem to harbour neither knowledge about dogs nor hearts. We request that you, Sorin Oprescu, by the power of your office as major of Bucharest, employ a manager with experience in animal rights questions, along with personnel whom can perform their tasks in a way which benefits the dogs, and causes them no harm or injuries for life. We know that you in your position can ensure that this municipal shelter becomes a role model for how animals are treated in Romania, and that you can see to it that the inhabitants of Bucharest and Romanians in general can become proud of their ways of treating animals. This will in turn give Bucharest a lot of goodwill and more tourists eager to spend money in the city. A lot of domestic and foreign eyes see what transpires and we will follow this matter until the conditions are resolved for the dogs. Even the employees should be able to feel pride in their work and be given space to treat these animals so that they come unharmed to new homes, including through foreign organisations working with finding new homes for these dogs. Let Bucharest be a model for the rest of Romania!
