End To Fur Farming Of Animals Skinned Alive

Background (Preamble):
Since 1997, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has investigated and documented the international trade in dog and cat fur and skins. This undercover investigation has spanned the globe from source countries in China, the Philippines, & Thailand to retailers and wholesalers in the United States, Russia, and the European Union.

Over two million dogs and cats are slaughtered each year for their furs and skins, mostly in China and other Asian countries. Investigators documented 50,000 to 100,000 cat pelts stockpiled at animal byproduct factories in China. At least ten dogs are slaughtered to make a single coat, more if puppies are used. Up to 24 cats are slaughtered to make one fur coat. Dog and cat fur is used in trims, linings, hats, decorative figurines, and folk remedies. Skins are used in dog chew toys and shoe leather.

The slaughter of these animals is violent and pitiless.Cats are strangled inside their cages as other cats look on. Dogs are noosed about the neck by metal wires, and then slashed across the groin. The wire noose cuts into their throats as they struggle in pain before finally losing consciousness. In Harbin China, HSUS investigators documented a German shepherd still blinking and conscious as he was being skinned. At a dog farm several hours north of Harbin, investigators documented dead dogs hanging from hooks as others, still alive, awaited their fate outside the same cold, dismal room.

An investigator from Swiss Animals Protection/East International said:"Conditions on Chinese fur farms make a mockery of the most elementary animal welfare standards...In their lives and their unspeakable deaths, these animals have been denied even the simplest acts of kindness."

8. It is customary practice of the Cochabamba Municipal Kennel's personnel (Zoonosis), to abandon the animals during week-ends, without water or food. They now threaten to kill 8 dogs, left in deplorable conditions this past week-end. It was discovered that the Zoonosis Chief's dog had his ears and tail brutally cut off (with untreated wounds), for "experiments" and because "I can do whatever I want with my dog" (actual quote). Even dogs with owners looking desperately for them, mysteriously "disappear".

9. At Solomon Klein Hospital in Cochabamba, 3,000 anti-rabies vaccines were burnt, which made the municipal veterinarians come out and start killing every dog, covering up the vaccine disaster to SEDES (Government Health Officials).

10. Cats and dogs which present a nuisance, or are no longer wanted, are simply hung by the neck in houses or trees, in sight of everyone.11. All kinds and species of animals are poisoned throughout the year, with strychnine, thus forming a "death chain", endangering public health and damaging the environment - this goes on in Sucre, Potosi, Oruro, Cochabamba, Las Minas and other departments.

Tuesday night Ardmore Oklahoma residents watched in horror as Antonio Ray dragged a pitbull behind his bicycle through the city streets. Numerous people called police and one couple even captured a picture on their cellphone. He was dragging the dog, said John Rhodes, who witnessed the event. Its arms were behind it. Its chest was on the ground and there were streaks of blood. Rhodes measured the blood trail in his truck, it was at least a quarter of a mile long. Antonio Ray was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. The dog was taken to Ardmore Animal Shelter with injuries to its side, head and paws, but died before any treatment could be given. Antonnio Ray is in court for 1st hearing this morning. The maximum penalty is 5yrs in prison and/or a fine. Please urge them to go for the maximum sentence. His next hearing is on March 31, 2009. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.

We the undersigned believe that animal abuse of any kind should not be tolerated. In a situation of such blatant disregard, we have faith that you will make the right decision and give Antonio the maximum sentence and fines allotted by law. We are struggling to save streets dogs because in Kryoneri, a village in the Northern suburbs of Athens, they are brutally killed .So we must take them in our homes until we can find adoptions for them because the Community refuses to built a shelter according the Law 3170/2003 and get to the Ministrys program. So we must feed and treat more than 50 stray dogs in the whole area and numerous cats, by ourselves.
We have also to deal with abused dogs by the farmers, chained in lousy conditions used as scarecrows in the fields, doggies inside coops for watching the chickens, abandoned starving hunting dogs and so many other mistreated animals.
Please urge the Minister , the Community and the Local Police Department to protect us and our strays from the horrible acts of cruelty by unscrupulous people who are a major threat not only for us and our strays but for the whole Society.
Also ask to the Ministry and the Local Community to build a shelter and finance the rehoming of our strays. We are only volunteers spending precious, time, money and strength. We believe that is Greek States duty to apply the Law and help us efficiently in our difficult task.

Ancol recreation park, Jakarta, is supposed to be a sweet recreation place but is in fact responsible for a lot of animal suffering: at present cats are captured and relocated to the cages at the jalan harsono.
After JAAN found out what is truly happening in Ancol JAAN interviewed varios shop owners and visitors throughout Ancol. Only 20% of the people knew that cats were relocated, they said that the cats were brought to ragunan where better care is provided. This is untrue.
In fact, the cats are relocated to Jalan Harsono in South Jakarta, the Dinas peternakan building where they will be terminated.
Instead, Ancol management could cooperate with NGO's like JAAN in order to strive for a humane solution. JAAN has offered Ancol this option but they still choose to just continue with the mass culling of the stray cats in Ancol. Besides that the suffering of the cats who are left to die slowly, starving of hunger and stress and wounds inflicted on each other while caged, this also doesn't provide a solution to the big amount of stray cats in the area. This mass culling will not reduce the stray cat population as other cats will replace the territories of the cats that have been removed. It seems that Ancol has not done its homework and just wants to seek a quick and inhumane way of getting rid of the cats in Ancol area.

The municipality (dimos) has recently taken over the shelter and have removed R.A.W.S. from the facility. As a result the level of service and care appears to have significantly declined as help is being refused, calls regarding animals are not being responded to. Back in 2004, a bill was introduced in the New York State Legislature that would prohibit the slaughter of horses in New York State. The bill, S. 380, was passed in the Senate by a vote of 59-1, yet, the bill was stalled and finally died in the Agricultural Committee, held up there by its pro-slaughter Chairman, William MaGee, a "meat-industry" politician. http://assembly.state.ny.us/mem/?ad=111 New Yorkers, this is an great injustice not only to the horses of New York but to US as citizens of New York. We urged our representatives to push S. 380 through and they did. Why is this not law? Thankfully, S. 380 was reintroduced in January 2009 and is currently pending a vote in the New York State Assembly, and the new number is A3736. Please, horse-loving New Yorkers, take action on this matter and contact your New York State Assemblymen and let them know you VOTE and are strongly opposed to horse slaughter. We must not be content with emails. They are too easy to forget. We are hoping the horse-loving community of New York will bombard the Assembly with letters & faxes. The crutial difference between a horse and any other farm animal is this: The USDA has a list of "officially approved" food chain animals, and the horse (nor our dogs or our cats) are on that list. Poppy lives at Apple Tree Mobile Home Park in New Castle Colorado with his canine companions, Bella and Boots, and his human family.  Recently, the management of Apple Tree announced that only one dog per mobile home would be allowed. Because Poppy's family had two dogs before moving, they had secured permission for two dogs, in writing, prior to the move.  They were sure that after explaining how they had come to have another, permission would be granted to keep all three.

Unfortunately, the management of Apple Tree did not agree.  They recognized that the family was "Grandfathered" and could keep two, but a third would have to go.  The family suggested that Poppy, at age 15 years, deaf, and with a heart condition, should be allowed to live out his natural life and no other dogs would be added.  The other two dogs, both 5 years old, would be kept as the two dogs the family is allowed.  Again, the management of Apple Tree did not agree.  

The family has been told that they must produce a Veterinary receipt for the euthanization of Poppy within 30 days or face eviction.  They do not have the money for a court fight, nor do they have the money to move their mobile home, yet they are desperate to save Poppy.  Please help us convince  the management of Apple Tree Mobile Home park to reconsider and allow Poppy to live out his natural life.

Ginny Stewart, chair person for the Animal Advisory Committee, has ask the Board of Commissioners to remove the contract the County has with APS regarding rescuing animals from the Person County Animal Shelter.  APS has been able to save more animals in 2008 (over double what we saved in 2007) and this is partially due to the contract we have with the County. If this contract is removed, we can no longer rescue animals that the shelter deems un-adoptable. As many of you may know, the vast majority of the animals that end up at Person County Animal Shelter are deemed un-adoptable, or not placed for adoption to due space. Pictured here is "Angel", a dog that APS was denied rescue because she was timid and deemed un-adoptable by the shelter. Angel met her untimely death in the gas chamber because she was afraid of the shelter surroundings as many animals are. We ask that you support our efforts and sign this petetion to allow us to continue to do the work we are doing for the community and the animals.

Bali’s dogs are dying.
In a kneejerk reaction to six suspected human rabies fatalities, the island’s authorities have killed over 1,000 dogs. This number could rise dramatically.
The animal suffering is acute. Strychnine is being used to poison some of the dogs, leaving them conscious and convulsing until they eventually suffocate.
People are suffering too – the vast majority of victims are pets that are allowed to roam freely.
Stop the cull, prevent rabies
Reliant on tourism, Bali must prevent the spread of rabies. But a dog cull does not attack the root cause and cannot safeguard human health.
The World Health Organization recognizes that the most effective way to eradicate this fatal disease is mass vaccination of dogs alongside rabies prevention education.
This has been proven to eradicate rabies in many countries; mass killing has consistently failed.
The Bali Rabies Forum, a coalition of animal welfare groups including WSPA, has developed recommendations on humane, effective rabies prevention for Bali. But this cannot work without the commitment of the authorities.

Each year millions of homeless animals our slaughtered in the United States alone, because they have no home. While most shelters have changed their methods of euthanasia to that of lethal injection there are still many that operate throughout the country using gas chambers as their method of killing. After being stuffed into a metal box the lid closes and carbon monoxide is pumped into the box as it slowly suffocates the animals to death. They gasp for breath, bleed from their cavities, and their cries can be heard from within the box, this was deemed unacceptable during the holocaust as it was inhumane and horrible, how could it be any different for animals just because they have fur and cannot speak our language? The shelter workers also suffer from this method of killing as many suffer from long term health problems due to carbon monoxide exposure. As well as the unimaginable mental side effects of having to do this time and time again. The danger does not stop with the workers, some gas chambers have completely exploded all together, this is dangerous for humans and animals alike, we need to use the safe alternative that is available. This is not only a dangerous and cruel method but an uneffective one at best, there have been multiple stories of shelter workers opening up the gas chamber door to dispose of bodies only to find a live dog staring up at them. Many of these times the dogs are put through this multiple times until they die. We are known as a nation of animal lovers, they give us nothing but their best, they give us their unconditional love, and loyalty, they at least deserve to die in peace. I challenge and encourage any one who disagrees with me to watch this video and look into your heart and find the time to sign this petition, if not for the animals, for the workers, and their families. Do it for your pet, your family, and your community. Let us come together we can make this world a safer place for everyone.

On the evening of Saturday June 28, 2008, the family of Lynn Davis', lives were changed. Their little bassett hound, Babyboy, slipped out of the safety of his backyard. Moments later a neighbor came to the Davis' front door to report their precious little dog was hurt. Another neighbor, , had shot and killed Babyboy. Surrounded by a crowd of people, Terri picked up his lifeless little body screaming to God, as tears ran down her face. At that point she didn't know how babyboy had died. They brought him home and it was then, as they looked him over, that they found the bullet hole. Delawder was part of the crowd that surrounded Terri. He was asking if, "Anyone had seen anything." In other words, he was acting like he had no knowledge of the shooting. When the police arrived he lied to them. It was after Mr. Delawder contacted his attorney, (2 hours later) he admitted to shooting the Davis family dog. His excuse? He stated he had every right to shoot the dog to protect his cats. It is suspected that his cats, (if there really are any) are locked in an unventilated box in his backyard. In which case, not only is he guilty of a crime by shooting the dog, he is also guilty of animal abuse. Alabama state law made it a class C felony in the year of 2001: Title 13A. Criminal Code. Chapter 11. Offenses Against Order and Safety. Article 1. Offenses Against Public Order and Decency. § 13A-11-14. Cruelty to animals. Section 13A-11-240. Definitions. Section 13A-11-241. Cruelty in first and second degrees. 13A-11-14. Cruelty to Animals. (a) A person commits the crime of cruelty to animals if, except as otherwise authorized by law, he intentionally or recklessly: (1) Subjects any animal to cruel mistreatment; or (2) Subjects any animal in his custody to cruel neglect; or (3) Kills or injures without good cause any animal belonging to another. (b) Cruelty to animals is a Class B misdemeanor. (Acts 1977, No. 607, p. 812, § 5565.) 13A-11-240. Definitions. (a) The word "torture" as used in this article shall mean the act of doing physical injury to a dog or cat by the infliction of inhumane treatment or gross physical abuse meant to cause said animal intensive or prolonged pain or serious physical injury, or thereby causing death due to said act.(b) The word "cruel" as used in this article shall mean: Every act, omission, or neglect, including abandonment, where unnecessary or unjustifiable pain or suffering, including abandonment, is caused or where unnecessary pain or suffering is allowed to continue. (c) The words "dog or cat" as used in this article shall mean any domesticated member of the dog or cat family. (Act 2000-615, p. 1252, § 1.) This petition is to urge the magistrate and police of Odenville, AL to take action. Help us bring the town of Odenville, Alabama, to task, for failing to uphold the law.
