Help Free Rocky the Kangaroo from a life of Misery and Confinement

ANFA Act Now For Animals - An Australian online animal rights and vegan resource

The theme for this year’s USA Borderfest was 'Celebrating Australia". A 10 year old Red Kangaroo named Rocky (or Jack) was scheduled to perform 4 shows at the festival. These ridiculous shows would involve forcing Rocky to wear boxing gloves and shorts and have a staged boxing fight with his owner Javier Martinez while paying customers watched. Due to uproar from animal rights activists and the event sponsor Kraft Foods – the shows were cancelled.

Unfortunately, this was not the end of this cruel and unusual event - Rocky was set to perform in Kentucky later on in the month. Recent photos taken from that performance suggest Rocky aka Jack, is underweight and in poor muscle tone. Evidence also shows that Rocky is cruelly confined to a cage when he is not performing for the circus. He also has an open wound on his chest from being harnessed.

Please help free Rocky from this life of confinement and misery by sending a letter to the Rocky Show Circus requesting that Rocky be retired to an appropriate wildlife sanctuary where his needs as a kangaroo can be properly facilitated.

Simply enter the required details below and click send or write your own letter (please note that personal letters carry more weight). Please keep all correspondence polite and professional!

Punishment for the man crippled Mima - The Petition Site

On March 26th Dobromir Donchev from Drianovo,Bulgaria found Mima lying crippled near his home. All four paws of the 5-years -old female dog were axed. Donchev took Mima to the vet immediately where she was stabilised. Nevertheless Mima will be most probably put to sleep. Her paws were cut in such a barberic way that it is almost impossible to be replaced.

Mima's owner is sure the crime was done by a neighbour because of an old fight. But there is nothing he can do about it. There is no zoo police in Bulgaria and no proper punishment for such acts.

Young people from Drianovo now, are gathering signatures asking the Bulgarian Prime Minister for justice. Please show your support and hopefully this case will set the long waited changes of Bulgarian Law against Animal abuse.

Animals in Albania need your help! Hilfe für Tiere in Albanien!

Animals in Albania need your help!
We urgently ask all animal lovers to sign our petition to rescue stray animals in Albania!

Animal lovers in Albania are in despair! We are demanding that:
THE KILLING OF STRAYS MUST BE STOPPED IMMEDIATELY!
Every evening as night falls, dogs are being slaughtered in the country's city streets. Whether killed or just badly injured and still alive, they are quickly removed and transported for burial to distant out-of-sight places.
Within one week in March 500 dogs were killed in Tirana!
WE URGE AN END TO THESE CRUELTIES!
LAWS MUST BE ALTERED ! Albania urgently needs a law for the protection of animals conforming to European standards
WE URGE CASTRATIONS INSTEAD OF KILLING!

INTRODUCE LEGISLATION TO REDUCE CUSTOMS FORMALITIES FOR THE IMPORTATION OF RELIEF SUPPLIES TO ANIMAL SHELTERS
Relief supplies should go directly to shelters without customs formalities.
Declarations provided by foreign societies for the prevention of cruelties to animals that items sent to Albania are donations of second-hand items should be enough to qualify such items for duty-free status. Such items and donations of food are urgently needed.
Current law provides no special status to them.
Second-hand cages, blankets, leads, collars, food and medications must go duty-free.
WE URGE THE APPROPRIATE MINISTRY TO GRANT RIGHTS TO THE ANIMALS!

We thank you for signing our petition!

Pro-Active Baboon Management and Protection of Baboons Petition

Pro-Active Baboon Management and Protection of Baboons Petition

After luring a baboon into a trap by using bread as bait, a Wilderness man fired about 20 shots into the animal, using a .22calibre gun. The baboon took about 2 hrs to die. Police called to the scene were so traumatised, they were unable to put the animal down themselves and called a professional hunter in to end the baboon's suffering. The man was arrested but only charged with firing a weapon in a residential area.

The SPCA is prosecuting the perpetrator under the Animal Protection Act for cruelty to animals.

Baboon Matters Trust believes that this and other
related incidents could have been prevented if
CapeNature (Responsible for nature conservation in the Western Cape) and SA National Parks implemented pro-active baboon
management into baboon affected areas.

KILLING SO-CALLED “PROBLEM ANIMALS” DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

The outdated belief that the only way to solve a problem caused by the inability of man to live alongside wildlife, is to eliminate the wildlife needs to be changed. Killing so-called “problem animals” does not solve the problem. It has been proven that pro-active management reduces conflict and helps solve the problem eliminating the need to hurt, maim or torture any animal.
Petition:
We the undersigned call on CapeNature
and SA National Parks to:

1. Have stricter laws protecting wildlife from cruelty.

2. Prosecute this case with the harshest possible sentence.

3. Support the SPCA in helping to prosecute all cases of cruelty.

4. Immediate implementation of non-lethal management strategies such as Baboon Monitors, effective waste management and raising of education and awareness in conflict areas.

5. Protect South Africa’s baboons from being hunted.

Justice For Chained Dogs Starved To Death Petition

The vast majority of Egyptians are not knowingly or deliberately cruel to animals though they might vary considerably in what they consider to be fair and kind treatment of them. This thinking can extend to the keeping of companion animals, and indeed, many dogs do live in less than ideal conditions.

Sign the petition to help raise awareness and put an end to animal cruelty in Egypt.

There are many things in our society today that unfortunately go overlooked. One such thing that is overlooked is the number of dogs who are being abused: Physical abuse ranging from beating, kicking, disposing of, mutilating, savagely hitting, cutting, scratching, starving, or leaving a dog chained up in the same spot for days, weeks or months without a shade in the heat begging for food and water; such is considered abuse regardless of whether the caretakers intended to hurt the dogs.

You may not like it, I may not like it but that doesn't mean we get to ignore the fact that dogs are not always treated and cared for as they should be and only the more sensationalistic stories about animal abuse make it to the news.Sadly some dogs fall into the hands of irresponsible owners who knowingly, intentionally torture and seriously overwork the dogs, failing unreasonably to provide necessary food, care, or shelter as it is the case with “QARYET EL ASSAD”.

There has been many complaints about dogs chained up outside unattended to a fixed point during periods of extreme weather without food or water for more than six hours. These dogs are permanently chained for life and thousands of other dogs across the country are being treated like this; kept chained up for the most part 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Normally they may not be chained or tethered for more than 10 hours in any 24. Yet, both eyewitnesses and casual observers say they see a lot of dogs chained up all day long in this area, and they want it to stop.

I’m talking about people who forget about their dogs being out there and leave them there all the time. Due lack of care, dogs at QARYET EL ASSAD are willingly, knowingly, and deliberately neglected, hurt and abused; slipping a choke chain over their dogs necks causing extreme itching, bruising, follicle red and inflammations with their ribs showing more everyday due extreme malnutrition.

These dogs live out their days on the end of a chain in a sad gray zone of pethood. Coupled with their deprived upbringing these dogs never had a chance for a variety of reasons from advanced age to healing from severely ingrown collars. Dog abuse is a growing problem in this country that has many causes and effects, but there are ways that we as a society can decrease the occurrence of this horrible event. Please let’s sign the petition in protecting and supporting Man’s best friend “we owe it to them-let’s take affirmative action now”

No Chained Dogs!

STOP HINCKLEY, UT ANIMAL BRUTALITY - The Petition Site

Residents in the small town of Hinckley, Utah are speaking out against the city's animal control policy. The mayor of Hinckley says after strays are held for 72 hours, they are shot. Critics call it an archaic and cruel form of animal control. Hinckley resident Suzanne Folsom said, "It's so sick and its so very very wrong." According to city officials and residents, the dogs and cats are taken to a fenced-in sewage pond on the outskirts of town, shot and their bodies left in an open pit.One of the townspeople stated:"It's probably one of the worst things I've ever seen." As to the dogs in the massive grave, "They had collars on them. They were people's pets."Mayor Donald Brown says the city's policy is efficient and cost-effective. It is legal to shoot dogs and cats in Utah if done humanely with one bullet to the head. City maintenance supervisor Stephen Beagley said, "I have never a time when it took more than one bullet." The city denied any allegations that the animals suffered from their policy.

Los Angeles, CA - Danielle Graham, a 21-year-old California woman was arrested Wednesday after she threw her boyfriend's puppy into oncoming traffic during an argument with him.

The dog was killed by a passing vehicle.

Investigators say two police officers witnessed the crime and attempted to take Graham into custody, however she resisted arrest. Graham's boyfriend, identified as 24-year-old Hakeem Funtua joined the physical confrontation in an apparent attempt to assist Graham.

The officers pepper sprayed the couple and called for backup, however Graham and Funtua continued to fight with officers, causing minor injuries to them in the process.

Graham was finally subdued and booked into jail on charges of animal cruelty and assaulting a peace officer. Her bond was set at $50,000.

Help STOP the Hunting of Feral Cats in NJ - The Petition Site

Help STOP the Hunting of Feral Cats in NJ - The Petition Site

We the undersigned respectfully ask you to dismiss the resolution to reclassify feral cats as proposed by Fish and Game Council member, Leonard Wolgast.

The public does NOT want feral cats to be reclassified, NOR do they wish to have feral cats hunted. Individuals support TNR as the HUMANE method of controlling feral cats and wish to see more TNR programs implemented.

History has shown us that eradication (catch and kill) or "hunting" attempts fail, because more cats quickly move into the vacated area and start the reproductive cycle over again. And, in most cases, eradication is counterproductive. In areas where feral cats are removed, the rodent populations explode, causing new %u201Cproblems%u201D to arise and further damage to ecosystems.

Why waste time and money utilizing OUT-DATED and CRUEL management practices to control feral cat populations, when rescue organizations are ALREADY helping to improve the situation and when HUMANE, NON-LETHAL methods of control exist?

We cannot change the mistakes of our past, but we can certainly change our future. If a species needs controlled in order to preserve another, then all humane, non-lethal methods should be utilized. In this day and age, everyone should be trying to instill more compassionate ethics towards the earth and all of its inhabitants. Please help us make a brighter future for feral cats, by supporting TNR.

Thank you for your time and your support.

Stop New Jersey from legalizing the hunting of cats! - The Petition Site

Head off a potential reclassification of feral cats.

The state Fish and Game Council of New Jersey has condemned the idea of leaving cats in the wild and now another committee that reports to the state Department of Environmental Protection is studying the issue of TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) programs according to COLLEEN  STAFF WRITER/Daily Record MARCH 13, 2010

They want to have the cats reclassified! Currently the Fish and Game Council has no authority at all over domestic cats, and feral cats are domestic cats (species felis domesticus).

The N. J. legislature has given authority over all domestic cats to the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services, which calls TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) a facet of "the solution to the free-roaming and feral cat situation", and the NJ SPCA supports TNR as a method of humanely reducing feral cat populations.

According to council meeting minutes in 2007, Jeannette Vreeland, acting chair of the Fish and Game Council, asked if feral cats could be added to the list of animals that could be hunted! This week she defended the 2007 resolution.
The signers of this petition believe that the New Jersey Fish and Game Council cannot simply give itself authority to hunt cats!

The exotics statute states that it does not apply to species that are domestic companion animals or farm livestock. It applies to wildlife.
However, the New Jersey Fish and Game Council want feral cats to be hunted and shot down dead!
Please sign this petition if you OPPOSE the reclassification and hunting of cats in the State of New Jersey.

Thank you!

Stop Wildlife Penning.Support NC SenateBill515 - The Petition Site

Penning is a highly controversial hunting event involving trapping wild game, such as foxes or coyotes. Wild game are subsequently released into an encaged area, like the 900-acre Tar River Fox Pen in Creedmoor, North Carolina where hunt dogs are trained to track and kill trapped prey.

Approximately 150 registered fox pens exist in North Carolina.

Recently, A missing mother of two children, sister to a brother, daughter, and loving friend, Kelly Currin Morris, was found ravaged in the aforementioned, Tar River Fox Pen, owned by James Ray of Creedmoor, North Carolina.

Although Ray is not a person of interest in the ongoing investigation, his fox pen, the largest in North Carolina, is the center of much controversy by local and state animal activists.

Media attention surrounding Kelly's disappearance 14 months ago and the location of her remains has resurfaced the controversial issue of Fox Penning in the state of North Carolina.

The North Carolina state director of The Humane Society United States, Amanda Arrington, says, "This [fox penning] is basically staged animal combat. The competition is, of itself, to judge these dogs, complete with trophies, prizes and how well the (dogs) can corner these animals and, often times, tear them apart. We want to stop the abuse. Fox and coyote are being trapped, often injured when they're trapped, taken to these enclosures where they're unfamiliar and then packs of dogs are released on them and they rip them apart and kill them."

Prohibit Wildlife Penning. What can you do?

"There is a demonstrated link between violence and cruelty to animals and violence towards humans. The FBI and other law enforcement agencies, when discussing serious violence to humans, often note that a history of violence to animals is a characteristic in the perpetrator. It is difficult to conceive of such unmitigated and unjustified cruelty as that exhibited in fox pen hunting." -- excerpt from petition Shut Down Cruel Fox Pen Hunts

Tell Canada to End Its Shameful Seal Slaughter

Tuesday, 16 March 2010 0 comments

See Canada's Shame on PETAIndia.com.

"For thousands of years, harp seals have migrated from Greenland down the coast of Canada, stopping each spring to give birth on the ice floes. Every year, a band of fishers descends on the ice to beat hundreds of thousands of seals to death and sell the animals' pelts on the international fur market. Sealers routinely hook baby seals in the eye, cheek or mouth and drag them across the ice, often while the animals are still conscious. Many of the seals killed in the massacre are only a few weeks old.
Baby seals stand no chance against club-wielding seal hunters – pups must look on as fellow seals are bludgeoned to death only to then meet the same bloody fate. The commercial seal slaughter is an off-season profit venture for the fishing industry, and it accounts for less than 1 per cent of Newfoundland's economy. The seal slaughter is not a subsistence activity for native peoples – Inuit sealing accounts for only about 3 per cent of the annual slaughter.

The price of seal fur is plummeting as international outrage against the seal slaughter rises. The US and the European Union have banned seal products, and world leaders such as US President Barack Obama and His Holiness The Dalai Lama have denounced the massacre.

The annual seal slaughter will continue unless people like you speak out and take action to stop it, so please add your voice to the global outcry against Canada's shameful seal massacre. Please write to Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Canadian ambassadors around the world to demand that they end the massacre immediately.

A.Ch.R.-Help Stop the Killing of Dogs in Romania - Petition.fm

To The Romanian Kennel Club (A.Ch.R.) www.ach.ro

email : info@ach.ro
and all its national, regional and invdividual members,

"The Greatnest of a nation and its Moral Progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated" (M.Gandhi)
We, citizens of the world, most of us your co-nationals, come to ask you to join the world wide effort to stop the mass torture and killing of dogs in Romania. Romania and the Romanian People have been tarnished once again by the atrocities commeted agains animals and more specifically against non-pure bredd dogs.
The time has come for you to make a public statement in the national and international media to condemn the decisions taken by mayors in Romanian cities to get rid of those animals by killing them and to remain silent to their poisoning.

The time has come to condemn publicly these crimes and to show the world that you do care about DOGS and not only the pure breed ones. The time has come to advise all your members to adopt a stray dog.
Your silence is very disturbing and is interpreted by many of us a tacit acceptance of what is going on.
The time has come to join publicly the efforts of so many good Romanians, their associations and the international associations who try to help.
We would like to tell you, that further measures will be taken by the international community of all animal advocates to make sure that all animals, all dogs in Romania will be protected.
With all due respect we all wait for a public statement and more than a statement a real help in solving this tragic situation.
We will continue our fight for the lives of innocent animals in your country ar far as necessary.
Please live up at your own statement " Responsible Passion "
The question is...Passion for Pure Breed dogs only...or passion for all dogs..
We do hope that you will break your silence and join all of us for te well being of all animals - all dogs - in this matter.
Thank you

Romanian horses desperately need help Petition

To: Romanian Governent

To the President of Romania and the members of the government.

We respectfully ask for your immediate support and cooperation to stop the horrible treatment of horses and other stray animals in Romania. Worldwide, people are horrified by the horse cruelty and shiver with indignation at such vileness. Stray animals are the responsibility of the government. Legislation must be instituted immediately to avoid such treatment. We urge the Romanian government in the strongest possible terms and all the persons who might influence such a decision to stop these abject cruelty by providing shelters where the abandoned horses can find refuge, food and the necessary care.

An indolent attitude of your government can bring shame and disgrace and it would be to the great advantage of Romania to put an end to the horrible treatment of horses and show the world that Romania is compassionate and civilized and has the ability to be a full member of the EU. We will prove your government that their own citizens and the rest of the world

will not go for anything less than a strong animal welfare policy.

To the president of the EU and the members of the Commission

As citizens of the EU, we need your help in protecting the abused horses in Romania. After all, they are since times immemorial our companion animals, service and work animals and family pets. There is no greater betrayal than this, towards animals who have served their owners and trusted humans for their care, to have their lives ended in complete abhorance. We insist that this cruelty and indifference be stopped immediately. This is a moral as well as a cruelty issue and we are insisting that you as legislators, take all necessary and efficient action to put an end to this mediaval situation.

You are the only persons who can force a breakthrough. As constituents of the EU that represent a huge majority opposing these atrocities, we are demanding that you exhibit an immediate and positive voice on behalf of these maltreated horses and donkeys, by putting pressure on the Romanian government in order to make them put to an end such abuses that are strongly disapproved by the public in the EU countries.

We thank you for the attention you will pay to this request.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

Seals in Canada Can Still Be Clubbed To Death
And They Need Your Help - Please Act Now,
And On March 15 – The Day Of Action For Seals in Canada

This month, the world’s largest slaughter of marine mammals is still scheduled to resume, despite the fact that an environmental disaster is naturally killing seal pups as you read this. Global climate change has resulted in barely any ice floes in eastern Canada which is critical habitat necessary for seals to breed, give birth, nurse their young and for the pups to gain strength in order to survive. If Prime Minister Stephen Harper does not intervene and cancel the hunt this year, sealers will kill the few remaining survivors. Please join IDA supporters and other compassionate people around the world by taking action today and on March 15 for a Day of Action for Seals in Canada. It’s important we spread the word to as many other people as possible as well.

Friends of Animals Bureau of Land Management (BLM)

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has proposed a plan that would expand the capture and confinement of wild horses. Under his plan, tens of thousands of additional mustangs (mares and neutered stallions) would be rounded up and sent to holding facilities in the Midwest and Eastern U.S., at taxpayers’ expense. The plan would eliminate many of the wild herds that currently exist and greatly reduce the populations of the remaining herds — well below the levels needed for their continued survival. Salazar’s plan would also mandate aggressive sterilization of wild horses on public lands, essentially “managing” the wild horses into extinction.

Help End Duck Shooting

Help End Duck Shooting

Have you ever been to the beautiful wetlands of Victoria, South Australia or Tasmania? Soon, many ducks will wish they had never gone. In a few weeks from now, these wetlands will become the scene of the 2010 duck hunting season and the place where thousands of ducks will be shot out of the sky.

State governments are permitting the shoot again this year even though native waterbird populations have already been decimated by drought and climate change. Waterbird numbers have declined by 82% across eastern Australia over the last 26 years.

Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia have already banned duck shooting due to the extreme suffering caused to birds. Not only will many ducks die, but roughly one quarter of all birds shot will escape wounded, and may suffer for extensive periods of time.

Please help us protect these defenceless birds and send a strong message to the premiers of Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania, urging them to ban duck hunting.

Pledge to Choose Non Animal-Tested Products | Sign the Pledge | Animals Australia

t is illegal to test consumer products on animals in Australia, yet sadly many big-name brands such as Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive and L'Oreal still fund painful and often lethal tests on animals in other countries before sending their products down under. Choosing non animal-tested products is the key to ending this cruel practice.

Animals are routinely poisoned, burnt and killed in the attempt to measure the toxicity of the chemicals that make up cosmetics, cleaning products, drugs, pesticides, foods and even packing materials. Testing companies expose animals to chemicals that may cause painful eye and skin irritation, developmental abnormalities, cancer and death. The pain from such tests can be excruciating, yet animals are typically not given pain relief, as scientists often fear that anaesthetics could affect the toxicity of the chemicals being tested. As a result, animals are often left to languish in pain

It's Time to Ban the Battery Cage

A chance to end caged cruelty
The cruelty endured by Australia's 11 million battery hens knows no bounds. Denied sunshine, fresh air and freedom, they are treated like production units rather than living beings, crammed into barren cages with up to four other birds. These intelligent and social hens suffer painful leg injuries and have no quality of life, imprisoned for the sole purpose of producing eggs for human consumption.

Pledge to Help End Circus Cruelty Sign the Pledge Animals Australia

The circus is no place for a wild animal. Even today, animals such as lions and monkeys are still confined to barren cages, trucked from town to town, and forced to perform unnatural and demeaning 'tricks' in the name of 'entertainment'. What might be an afternoon at the big top for some people can be a life of chronic boredom, confinement and stress for animals -- who are denied the ability to express their most basic natural behaviours. Please help to create a better future for these animals by pledging never to support exotic animal circuses.

Tell China to enact the Animal Protection Law - The Petition Site

Tell China to enact the Animal Protection Law - The Petition Site

China is abusing, killing, torturing all kinds of animals.

Tell China to enact the animal protection law.

In September 2009, legislation was drafted to address deliberate cruelty to animals in China. If passed, the legislation would offer some protection to pets, captive wildlife and animals used in laboratories, as well as regulating how farm animals are raised, transported and slaughtered.

Still open are the precise details of the final legislation, and the practical aspects of enforcing the law.

We claim to:

* Make it illegal to slaughter animals by skinning them alive for their fur

* Make it illegal to torment animals before their death to make their meat tastier

* Make it illegal to try keeping animals alive whilst eating them

* Protect all animals against mistreatment and cruelty of any nature

* Introduce severe penalties to enforce the legislation

Help animals in China to improve their situation by signing this petition, make others sign it.

Thank your in the name of all suffering animals for taking the time to read this letter.

UCLA is Profiting from Animal Torture - The Petition Site

UCLA is Profiting from Animal Torture - The Petition Site

UCLA is harboring a group of dubious researchers, Pro-Test for Science. They are purveyors of propaganda, lies, manipulation, and deceit -- not truth. And, as they have done in the U.K., their network threatens to spread across the U.S. like a virus. It is important to understand that Big Pharma, not the American Medical Association, helped build Pro-Test, created their own public relations branch, Speaking of Research, and even paid to put their chosen spokesperson in place.

Scientists do not hold rallies or manipulate mainstream emotions.

Scientists do not hire armed thugs to guard the closed doors behind which their public discussions take place.

Scientists do not intentionally lie to us.

Scientists do not hide accomplishments.

Scientists are not threatened by exposure.

Unfortunately, all of these things are the domain of UCLA's Pro-Test for Science. They are not scientists.

We no longer find this group to be credible or even worth engaging. The debate about the scientific validity of animal experimentation does little more than perpetuate itself and, since Pro-Test has rendered this discussion virtually useless, we want to talk about human decency. We want to see the animals that are hidden away. We demand transparency.

We are unconcerned about the Animal Welfare Act and humane experiments. Your researchers consistently fail to mention that 90% of lab animals are excluded from protection. They also fail to mention that the Act regulates confinement, starvation, dehydration, sensory depravation, how to cause severe pain, how to poison, blind, maim, paralyze, burn, torture, and kill sentient animals.

Dr. Dario Ringach has been researching the eyes of monkeys, cats, and dogs for years -- paralyzing them, gluing coils and metal rods to their eyeballs, allowing them to languish in misery for extended periods, and then killing them. UCLA allows his experiments to continue because they

are reaping the benefit of our tax dollars.

Dr. J. David Jentsch has been using a variety of narcotics to addict monkeys, dogs, and cats so that he may then drive them insane. He confines, injures, torments, and murders them. His journals indicate that he%u2019s been doing this for over a decade to countless victims. UCLA allows his experiments to continue because they are reaping the benefit of our tax dollars.

This is not science. It is violence and obscenity. The debate is over.

We demand to see the animals hidden away in UCLA's labs.

Demand Robeson County Stop Heartsticking - The Petition Site

Demand that Mrs. Bev Perdue stop the use of heartsticking as the way to euthanize dogs and cats at the Robeson County Animal Shelter/Control. You can see video online how hundreds of innocent dogs and cats are abused and killed on a weekly basic. This is barbacic yet she continues to not pass laws to end this sick abuse. Pet overpopulation is a big problem in Robeson County because they don't have strict laws on caring for your pet or spaying/neutering them so they end up being abused by the employess at local shelters. This needs to stop in 2010. Mrs. Perdue is obviously not an animal lover and should be ashamed of herself and her State.

Animal Shelter Cruel and Horrific Killings - The Petition Site

Animal Shelter Cruel and Horrific Killings - The Petition Site

This is an excerpt from the letter sent today by Joy Bertrand to the Robeson County Shelter Manager

Heartstick euthanasia although less expensive and approved by the United States Humane Society to be applied when the animal is unconscious. The American Veterinary Medical Association says, for example, "Intracardiac injection is acceptable only when performed on heavily sedated, anesthetized or comatose animals, owing to the difficulty and unpredictability of performing the injection accurately."
The Robeson County Shelter is not sedating animals before conducting this otherwise painful procedure. In fact, as will be discussed further below, witnesses have observed the SHELTER WORKERS ENJOY DOING IT.

Shelter Director Jeff Bass excuse for using heartstick belies the fact that the facility is properly heartsticking animals. To do so would require shelter staff to sedate the animal first. To sedate an animal would require the same IV set-up that would allow the shelter to then simply euthanize using the same IV. So, the saving argument by Jeff Bass is ridiculous, if the shelter is properly administering the procedure.

DOCUMENTED FACTS:
In January, 2010, a rescue volunteer observed firsthand that not only is the shelter NOT sedating animals before heartsticking, but the shelter workers took pleasure in hurting the animals. As demonstrated in the attached letter to Health Director Bill Smith by Rochelle Dudgeon, a rescue volunteer, she was in the shelter to pull animals when:

I heard 2 men talking as they walked down the right side isle [sic]. I heard them enter a kennel and then make the statement -Now suffer on this you son of a bitch.- I thought I heard wrong so I stood up and looked over in the direction they were. They were in the 12th kennel on the far right from the front door. They had a pole in their hand and were jabbing something. Then I heard the most horrific screams from an animal that I have ever heard in my whole life. The men sat over the dog and laughed as it screamed in pain for about 1-2 minutes. Honestly it felt like 10 minutes. I hurried up and crouched back down in the kennel as I didn't want them to see me. I heard them drag the dog off.

Ms. Dudgeon observed these shelter workers commit a felony under North Carolina law. N.C.G.S.A. 14-360(b) and (c) provide:

any person shall maliciously torture, mutilate, maim, cruelly beat, disfigure, poison, or kill, or cause or procure to be tortured, mutilated, maimed, cruelly beaten, disfigured, poisoned, or killed, any animal, every such offender shall for every such offense be guilty of a Class I felony. . . As used in this section, the words torture, torment, and cruelty include or refer to any act, omission, or neglect causing or permitting unjustifiable pain, suffering, or death.

These methods are being performed by non-professionals which even by a professional produces the same fear, agony & suffering.25-30 animals at a time can be stuffed into the chamber, screaming, howling, crying out, choking, vomiting, bleeding, fighting each other, urinating, deficating, clawing to get out while ripping their claws out & banging their heads against the chamber wall during this process, some even in carriers or traps or with muzzles on their snouts to make the horror even worse and even different species mixed in together..Many convulse go into comas & are buried alive or thrown in the garbage alive.Pregnant & senior animals take longer to die. Some are taken from the shelter to veterinarian/vet tech schools to practice on & then returned to the shelter to die horrifically after their horror at the school. All animals take about 30-45 mins to die. Some are gased 2-3 times.

Brazilian Domestic Animals Action - WSPA Australia & New Zealand

Brazilian Domestic Animals Action - WSPA Australia & New Zealand

The ONLY nationwide law making animal cruelty a crime is under threat, affecting all pets and all farm animals. Please help ensure it is not overturned!
A bill seeking to revise current law by decriminalising cruelty to “domestic or domesticated animals” has been put before Brazil’s National Congress.
Some politicians view animal protection as inconvenient, rather than essential for a compassionate society. They are campaigning hard for this bill. We need you to help us ensure animal cruelty remains criminal.

If Bill 4548 passes:

•Brazil will have no set nationwide penalties for animal abuse, meaning cruelty to dogs, cats, horses and many other species will be consequence free.
•Animal lovers and advocates who report a dog being beaten or a horse being starved will see little or no action taken. These acts of cruelty and more will no longer be criminal offences throughout Brazil.
Animal welfare will be set back by decades. The potential for suffering to increase is horrifying.
To date, over 65,000 Brazilians have contacted congress to protest the bill. We believe international pressure will add huge weight to their actions.

Help End Wildlife Penning in WI - The Petition Site

Help End Wildlife Penning in WI - The Petition Site

Wildlife penning is an unfair practice used in hunting dog training where dogs are released into an enclosed area with captive wildlife, where the victims have no chance of escape. I was shocked to learn that this is legal anywhere in the U.S., and it definitely has to stop.

Needless to say, wildlife penning has no place anywhere. Last month Florida officials imposed a ban on wildlife penning and it's well overdue for other states that still allow it, to do the same.

We the undersigned ask that you please immediately impose a ban on wildlife penning for the purposes of hunting dog training, as currently specified in WI code NR 17.045.

Dumping wild animals into enclosures and releasing frantic dogs on them is unfair and inhumane. The captive animals have no chance of escape and are simply easy targets that do not deserve to be put in that horrible situation.

The undersigned hereby petitions for the amendment of rule number NR 17.045 which provides as follows: No person may release any dogs into any dog training enclosure containing any captive wild animals.

The grounds for this petition are that the practice of wildlife penning is an unfair and inhumane practice.

The modification or change desired is a ban on the use of hound dog training enclosures as specified in WI code NR 17.045.

The petitioners' interest in the request is the welfare and humane treatment of wildlife.

Thank you very much for your time and attention. I sincerely hope that you will give this request your full consideration and permanently put an end to wildlife penning.
