Stop the primate trade from Mauritius - The Petition Site

An investigation carried out by the BUAV in 2009-2010 has obtained shocking evidence of the cruelty and suffering involved in the trapping and breeding of wild monkeys on Mauritius. Each year, thousands are torn from their families and jungle homes and either exported directly for research or imprisoned on farms to produce offspring to be exported to laboratories around the world, where they will likely suffer and die in experiments.

Mauritius is the second largest supplier of primates (long-tailed macaques) for the research industry in the world. The monkeys are exported to the European Union (mainly to the UK, France and Spain), the USA and Israel.

JUSTICE FOR PARIS, OFFICER REFUSED TO LET HER RECEIVE LIFE SAVING MEDICAL ATTENTION - The Petition Site

A Robeson County couple where on their way to the Animal urgent care at 3635 Sycamore Dairy Rd, Fayetteville NC, when less than two blocks away they where pulled over by Fayetteville Police Officer R. G. Ferguson for the tint on the windows of their car being too dark. They rolled down all windows as the officer approached and the officer said " you dont have a killer dog in there do ya?" they advised him the dogs was seizing and needed to get to the vet which was located around the corner, asking that the officer follow them there and continue with giving them the ticket at that location so the dog could been seen as soon as possible. Officer Ferguson refused to let them drive off, saying he had never heard of an emergency vet in Fayetteville, took their licenses and proceeded to sit in his car for twenty minutes. He then walked back to the car, stuck a tint measuring machine to the windows, then went back to his car where he wrote out tickets, the driver was not licensed but did have a permit with restricted driving yet the officer told them if they pulled away they would be at risk of being arrested. The driver pulled into a parking space where officer Ferguson then pulled into the space next to them, sat there for twenty more minutes until the dog took her last breath, then he drove away. The couple of course rushed over to the Animal Urgent care where their dog was pronounced dead just moments later by an employee named Kim. The gentlemen, Mr. Thompson of Lumberton, NC called the police department and spoke with Fergusons Sergent who stated that they where all animal lovers but that Ferguson had done nothing wrong. Officer Ferguson should be held accountable for his actions, this IS a form of animal neglect and abuse and I feel he should be charged for allowing a dog to suffer. This information has been passed on to PETA and the HSUS. The only thing that stopped that officer from allowing them to continue was his power trip he feels from wearing that badge. PLEASE email or call the Fayetteville police department and ask that Officer Ferguson be required to attend an animal empathy class so that he understands the importance of dogs as family members .. and the police departments motto is " Be the best of the badge", did he do his best?
You can calll Chief Tom Bergamine at (910) 433-1819 UPDATE*** I received an email from the Sgt who is over the complaints for the department he is looking into the situation!! Sgt. P. Brewington Office of Professional Standards Fayetteville Police Department (910)433-1823Please call him and let him know your thoughts on the lack of compassion from this officer for a dying animal!! Dallas, TX animal control officer drags dog with shattered legs

By TANYA EISERER / The Dallas Morning News
teiserer@dallasnews.com

An animal control officer has been pulled off the streets after Dallas city officials concluded he acted inappropriately when he tried to force a dog with shattered legs to stand up and walk, and then dragged it to an animal control vehicle.

The Labrador retriever mix was euthanized a short time later at a city facility.

Charles Jackson, who has worked as an animal control officer for about four years, could face disciplinary action over Tuesday afternoon's incident, which has outraged animal rescue advocates. Jackson could not be reached for comment.

"I'm very saddened that a dog should have to go through that right before he's euthanized," said Judi Burnett, an animal rescue advocate with Companions for Life.

Dallas police Senior Cpl. Joshua Merkel documented what happened about 12:30 p.m. after he and another officer were called to a report of an injured dog on Interstate 30 near Grand Avenue.

The officers found the dog with shattered rear legs and internal bleeding, his report stated. Jackson and another animal control officer were sent to the scene.

"The animal control officer muzzled the injured dog and attempted to get (the) dog to stand and walk to (the) animal control vehicle," Merkel wrote. "The dog whimpered in pain ... at which time the animal control officer began dragging the injured dog to the animal control vehicle and picking it up by grabbing the dog's rear fur. The dog again whimpered and the animal control officer dropped the dog."

Seeing that the animal control officer was causing the 55-pound tan-colored dog "unnecessary pain," Merkel intervened and helped place the injured dog into the animal control vehicle, the report said.

Merkel's supervisors instructed him not to talk to the media.

"It was inappropriate to have used the catch pole in this incident because the animal was wounded and could not walk," said Joey Zapata, director of the code compliance division, which includes animal services.

The incident marked the latest controversy to buffet the troubled Dallas animal services department, which only weeks ago saw shelter manager Tyrone McGill indicted on charges of felony animal cruelty after authorities said he ignored the plaintive crying of a cat trapped in a wall at the shelter until it starved to death. He remains on administrative leave.

A short time later, the department's highest-ranking manager, Kent Robertson, resigned, citing impending city layoffs.

Another animal control employee, Donnie Jones, is also on administrative leave over a separate incident where a cat was injured after Jones used a catch pole on it in late August. The devices are not supposed to be used on cats.

Jones had been previously counseled after he left two severely burned dogs in kennels rather than notifying someone in 2009.

"We have a terrible situation over there," said Elaine Munch, president of the Metroplex Animal Coalition, a coalition of 52 animal rescue groups in the Dallas area. "The ship is rudderless at Dallas animal services."

Zapata said he and his staff take the concerns of animal rescue advocates seriously.

"That's why in every instance we are taking appropriate action, including putting employees on administrative leave, conducting full investigations and cooperating with any criminal investigations," Zapata said. "At the same time, we are taking steps to make sure that we have a good management structure at the shelter."

Zapata said the department's procedures do not speak to exactly how an injured animal should be handled, but do state that animal control officers should transport the animal to veterinary treatment as quickly as possible. He said animal control officers do not routinely carry tranquilizer drugs in the field.

The dog in Tuesday's incident was microchipped, indicating that it was someone's pet, he said. The department will attempt to contact the owner to let him know of the dog's death, Zapata said.

"The police officer did the right thing," he said. "We need to have that kind of feedback whenever something is handled inappropriately."

Find and prosecute the thugs who killed the dog in Dublin with fireworks - The Petition Site

On Wednesday 15th of September 2010, Gardai in Finglas in Dublin, Ireland were alerted by members of the public who reported seeing a severely injured dog on Cardfiffbridge Road, Finglas. The dog had been maliciously handed a lit firework by a gang of youths and had lost the entire bottom of its jaw. Gardai rushed to the scene and managed to contain the injured animal.

Inspector Liam Kinsella responded to the emergency and rushed the dog to the Dublin SPCA veterinary surgeon, however there was no alternative but to euthanize the dog immediately as repair or recovery were impossible. Both Gardai and Dublin SPCA were shocked and appalled by the incident.

Justice For Toby: Toby's Law - The Petition Site

Three years ago in Texas, three young boys kidnapped a nieghbor's 5-month-old Pomeranian puppy, named Toby, and took him to an abandoned house. There, they climbed to the top of the building and repeatedly threw this poor pup off the edge, breaking all of his legs. They then strung him upside down BY HIS BROKEN LEGS and proceeded to hit him repeatedly with a wooden board embedded with nails, basically treating this tortured puppy like a pinata. These young monsters then lit his genitals on fire. One of them grabbed a pocketknife and started to cut Toby's throat. It was at this point that this poor, victimized pup died of his wounds.
The boys who committed this terrible murder were 12, 14, and 16 years of age at the time it occurred, and although they were initially arrested and had their day in court, they were sentenced with mercy due to their ages. The prosecutor, whose very job consists of fighting for the victim regardless of what age the perpetrator might be, was the first to tell the media, "They are just children."
Congressman Rahall, I have high respect for you and your views towards animal rights. Being a lover of animals, I am certain that you see the injustice in this case. The law states that animals are mere property; not family, not LIVES, as you, I, and millions of others in our country place them as. To us, they matter as much as our children. As much as our own lives. They search, rescue, protect, comfort, and love. They know joy and suffer heartbreak. They identify with each other, and with us, and show qualities at times that are almost human in its refinement. The law, in this aspect, is very wrong. It is unjust. Inadequate. Unexceptable.
But many of us have hope; hope that an individual who loves animals as we do, and who has the political standing to be able to directly envoke positive change, will finally come to bat for all the innocent animals that have fallen victim to killer kids. The more research and networking that I have started to do of late, the more I see how common an occurance this actually is. Every day I hear at least two stories of a child/younger person/minor who has abused, mistreated, or killed an innocent animal. Three teens kidnap and decapitate a dog. A group of preteens are caught burning alive two puppies as the pups scream in agony and huddle against each other in fear and excrutiating pain. A couple youngsters set off firecrackers in a dog's mouth, leaving the dog in complete agony and forced to be euthanized by the kind people who rescued him. A fifteen-year-old girl with a history of weapons and animal abuse charges puts a kitten in an oven and slowly cooks her alive while the poor kitten scratches frantically to get out, screaming in pain. I could conitnue for hours, filling pages and pages with information on miniature monsters who prey on the innocent.
Toby's murder was not an isolated incident. None of these cases are. There is a patten. Children are seeing, more and more of late, that there are just minor consequences to kabusing and/or killing an animal due to the inadequecy of the law to protect them properly. If you do not fear the consequences, what is to stop you from doing it again and again? According to the FBI files, over 85% of the most notorious killers, including serial killers, always began by torture and slaying of animals as young children. These events were clearly documented, some in great (and gruesome) detail, so it was well known by everyone but yet nothing was done. And alas, society helped shape and create such monsters as Ted Bundy, Sam Berkowitz, and Jeffrey Dhamer, just from failing to see these as warning signs of worse things to come, in addition to lack of justice for the victims. (Yes, animals do count as victims, for they have life and it was ripped from them violently)
By letting these events go with a mere slap on the wrist and a "time out," we are now shaping the next generation of sadists, rapists, and serial killers. If a person, particularly a child, gets any pleasure out of tormenting and innocent animal, this is not something that is going to be "cured" or "helped." It is a deep seeded characteristic, as true and consistant as any personality trait, and it will always reoccur. And rest assured, the vast majority will not stop there. If you like to kill, you like to kill. Eventually they will grow tired of animals, and graduate to people. They were, more than likely, doomed from the very begenning. They need to be constantly watched, given whatever treatment the law will probably insist on humoring them with, but more importantly when they commit these vile acts, they must be locked up, regardless of age. Evil knowns no age. As hard as it might be for plenty to admitt, chilren CAN be evil. They can be sadistic. Worry about the victims, not the killers! The victims were innocent, the killers were guilty, plain and simple.
Even without the fact that animal murderers will almost always evolve to victimizing people, that should truly be beside the point in the long run. Animals being victimized, tortured, abused, mistreated, and killed is well enough to call for justice! Life is life, as I am certain you can surely agree! Furniture is property. A car is property. Neither are living, breathing creatures with feelings and emotions. Animals are life, family, cherished by millions. They are not inanimant objects. They are not property. The abuse and/or murder of animals should hold much harsher, stronger sentencing with NO special treatment given to killer children and teens just for lack of age. Believe me, if they are old enough to conciously inflict unneccessary and sadistic pain on an innocent creature, they are also old enough to know the difference between right and wrong. Bad parenting or hard childhoods are of no consequence; plenty of people have grown up in awful conditions and grew up to be wonderful people. It is no excuse. There is no excuse. It is simply this; are you human, or are you a monster hiding inside of a human's body? lately it seems that there are too many cases of the latter.

Toby's Law is needed in our country, sir. It is widely suppourted among the American people, both devout animal lovers and "neutral" individuals alike, for even the "neutrals" agree that the statistics suppourting killer children is uncanny and cannot be ignored any longer.
Toby's Law would state that no child, minor, or underage person should be given immunity from punishment in the event of causing willful harm, torment, or emotional anguish to any domesticated animal, wild animal, or livestock. The same is to be said for any such action that directly, or indirectly, results in the death of an animal. Incarceration should be required as well as heavy probation, and the individual shall never be allowed to harbor, own, care for, or be alone in the presence of any animal indefinatnly.
It would also state that no confidentiality of such child, minor, or underage person be given in any case, regarding such things as the media and public files.

The confidentiality of the identities of many animal murders committed by children and underage people are a frutration to the highest degree for people like me. I deserve to be aware if there is someone living down the street from me, a child for instance, that has a history of abusing and/or killing animals. I ahve a right to know that there is an immediate possible threat that I need to keep an extra close eye on. The law does it for sex offenders, as they are forced to register. Animal abusers and killers should be required to do the same, which si something else that Toby's Law would entail. This registery would include any minor or underage person, as they will be given no immunity for their actions due to their age. It is time that we start taking younger people and children seriously, for they are not as clueless or innocent as they might act. They are sharper than we give them credit for, and they are fully aware of what they are doing. They need to start becoming responsible for their actions. It is time that our country stops babying the younger generation. Spoiling children never amounted to anything in families, did it? What good will it do as a whole nation? What will that do to the future generation, the people who in the future will be running our country? It is terrifying to consider .....
Please take Toby's Law and show direct suppourt in getting it passed into law, as I believe you are a person who believes in its cause. Although I am distrusting of most politicians due to a tendancy towards cynicism, I read your interviews and visit your web page on a daily basis. I believe that the words you speak are the truth, Congressman Rahall. I believe that your love and devotion to animals is as true as my own. People like you are the only hope that the millions who fear for our four-legged family members have to hold on to, the only hope that gives us the light we seek at the end of a seemingly endless dark tunnel. I ask of you, humbly and without shame, to give this the time and and suppourt needed to pass, and in doing so, ensuring that our animal bretheren can be given the peace, dignity, and if needed - justice - that they so very much deserve, and currently do not have.
Please be their hero, and ours as well.

Please Free Clementine from Research Lab - The Petition Site

  • Target: Professional Laboratory and Research Services, Inc. (PLRS)
  • Sponsored by: DW
Clementine's Story
A gentle senior Dalmatian named Clementine has been imprisoned at Professional Laboratory and Research Services (PLRS) for as long as seven years. According to a PLRS supervisor, the laboratory bought Clementine in 2003 from a notorious animal dealer that has since been shut down for "severe mistreatment and neglect of a multitude of animals." The dealer had acquired Clementine from an animal shelter. Clementine also referred to as "38902" spends her lonely days in a concrete and chain-link cell without exercise, affection, or attention. Every day, she is deprived of a home, a family, simple comfort, veterinary care, and enrichment.
Instead of living with a family in a good home, she endures the abuses of "life" at PLRS, where the floor's poor drainage forces her to spend most of her days standing in her own urine and/or a bleach and water solution. Workers spray a caustic bleach solution into the cage while she is still inside it. Raw, open sores cover her limbs. Excrement is caked on her body.
When PETA's investigator reported Clementine's injuries, she was told that they were "just part of life at PLRS" and that she should not tell the veterinarian who visits PLRS once a week or so about them. According to a PLRS supervisor, Clementine was diagnosed with heartworm disease in 2005 but has never been treated.
PETA's investigator visited Clementine when time permitted and, over a period of months, saw Clementine's physical and psychological health decline. Clementine appeared to be depressed and cried when the investigator left her. The investigator's requests to adopt Clementine were denied.
Unlike PLRS employees, who are free to leave the laboratory, Clementine cannot escape. She remains locked in a cage and is being considered for use in a cruel experiment

No - Kill Shelters in Portugal - The Petition Site

No - Kill Shelters in Portugal - The Petition Site

Many companion animals are slaughtered in many portuguese shelters during the last decade. That figure is equivalent to desumanity and no control with animal population by spay and neutering. Please join together for a common cause : To stop the killing of dogs and cats in our municipal shelters. Whether you are a rescuer of many, an animal caregiver of few or simply a concerned individual, if you beleive that a shelter should be a safe place for animals that leads to their eventual placement into loving, adoptive homes, please help us to end this cruel practice - kill shelters in Portugal. Now we have also alarming news from Setbal Shelter - another slaughterhouse in this country, lost and without course. Setbal will have a newshelter and the Vet responsible for it to start energy, simply will sacrifice all the animals, young, old, healthy and sick who are in the shelter. Please we have to save the largest number of animals from this cruel situation.
We want our public government to know we have sat on the sidelines long enough for them to make the right choices. Their decisions have cost the lives of thousands of our community animals. We now have to take a stand. We demand that our representatives yield to the will of their constituents. They must stop the killing now !

In Memory of Zorra Why some rules are so wrong

Friday 3 September 2010 0 comments

On 9-17-08 the Colorado Division of Wildlife used a search warrant to seize Zorra, a very special raccoon, due to en evil, spiteful phonecall from a Jon Jolicoeur. The CDOW forbid me to see Zorra for the 13 days they kept her in conditions she was not accustomed to and despite admitting that she was depressed and not eating. Their demands upon releasing Zorra forced her out of state and into further stress, killing her within weeks and only a day before I got to see her again and keep her forever. The prohibition against raccoons is unjust, they are not even allowed sanctuary in CO. Why? No justifiable reason. A petition has been filed to allow restrictive, responsible possession, only by qualified, licensed people and for unreleasable raccoons.
