GREEK ANIMAL TRAGEDY JANUARY 2009

Saturday 28 February 2009

A new year and the poisoning and abuse of animals continues.
It is probable that around 2,000 to 3,000 cats and dogs have lost their lives just this month from poisoning. Possibly some accidentally by farmers laying poison for foxes.
However, the fact remains that many of these cats and dogs are deliberately poisoned, either by individuals or, it is said, following instruction by the various municipalities. Dead bodies are usually removed by the garbage collectors before 5.00 am to avoid the general public seeing them. Of course, as some of these animals are fed by people, their absence makes the reason obvious.

The slideshow depicts just a few of the reported cases of poisoning and abuse received this month and is just the tip of the iceberg.

These innocent animals are the victims of callous and deliberate abuse and desperately need our help.
The few animal rescue volunteers "on the ground" struggle on a daily basis to help as many as they can.
